Is Tennis Champ Naomi Osaka A 'Baby-Faced Assasin'? Allure August 2019 Skims the Surface

Is Tennis Champ Naomi Osaka A 'Baby-Faced Assasin'? Allure August 2019 Skims the Surface

Abdul Sillah is hardly a household name in the sports world. At a time when Donald Trump is telling people of color to go back where they came from, it’s noteworthy that Sillah arrived in the United States from Sierra Leone.

AOC discovered Sillah reading Allure Magazine’s August 2019 cover story featuring rising tennis star Naomi Osaka. Lensed for Allure by Wai Lin Tse, Naomi Osaka didn’t know that she would be eliminated at July 2019 Wimbledon in her first round, losing to Yulia Putlintseva.

Unlike Serena Williams, whose powerful muscles dominate the pages of fashion shoots, Osaka’s do not. Sillah has trained both women, giving him a comparative lens into the superb two athletes.

Chan has dominated headlines since playing the troubled cousin Astrid in ‘Crazy Rich Asians’. Chan reminds us that political correctness works both ways, and she’s clearly still smarting from the racial pushback against her for playing Bess of Hardwick from the 2018 film ‘Mary Queen of Scots’.

Super-feminist Priyanka Chopra Goes Lip Gloss Only For Allure, Has Choice Words For Women

Self-identifying 'super feminist' Priyanka Chopra covers Allure magazine's first digital cover package with a strong message to women about the need to change how they view themselves.

Posing on the Greenpoint waterfront in Brooklyn, Chopra's only makeup was moisturizer and lip gloss, hoping to extend the conversation about how beauty impacts identity.

“A lot of the things media has perpetuated have created false standards around beauty. People that have not grown up seeing themselves in the space have a harder time accessing self love and acceptance. That's something we really push,” Allure's digital editorial director Kelly Bales tells The Hollywood Reporter. “It's been a huge mission for Allure — how can we right some of these wrongs of the past, re-educate both ourselves and our audience to have a larger scope of what we consider beautiful?”

Chopra discusses how women have been conditioned to think about the need to constantly change themselves. "We’ve always been treated as second-class citizens. We’ve always been told that only one of us can win and only the best one will get the cutest boy … Can we for a second love ourselves and say ‘I do not need all of these magazines to tell me to how to lose the weight or how should I starve because I want to please a man?’”

i-D featured photographer Camila Falquez's 'radically soft photos of black masculinity' in December 2017. The Brooklyn-based photographer convinced her model, LZ Granderson, that posing in pink tulle would not hurt his career. I said, ‘Listen, trust me. You want to be seen as a man ready to change the stories told about men,’” Camila recalls. Camila first met LZ, an aspiring politician, when she was taking photos at this year’s Afropunk Festival and fell in love with his aura. “He was so gracious, honest, and giving in the way he posed.”

Allure Acknowledges Dearth Of Asian Cover Models With Fei Fei, Fernanda & Soo Joo On June 2018 Issue

Allure Magazine joins the movement towards a more inclusive perspective with its June 2018 issue with a focus on Asian models. In her editor’s letter and a series of tweets, Allure editor-in-chief Michelle Lee explained her personal motivations to include an all Asian cast for this month’s cover with a moment of reflection and an understanding that numbers mean more than empty words. Our decision to feature three Asian women got me thinking about when the last time was that Allure had an Asian woman on the cover, Lee explained before stating some pretty incredible facts. In 327 issues and over 28 years, there had only been two Asian women on the cover: Lucy Liu in 2000 and Olivia Munn, who’s part Chinese, in 2014. Not. good!

Photographer Sølve Sundsbø captures animated cover portraits of Fei Fei Sun, Fernanda Ly, and Soo Joo Park, styled by Beat Bollinger and all inspiring major hair envy. Adwoa is interviewed by Brennan Kilbane about her nonprofit, Gurls Talk, an initiative that is the product of her own story -- one of healing, trauma, crazy success, and manic nosedives. Without a doubt, Adwoa Aboah is the star of a new era type of supermodel, a beautiful womanly color mix of brains and bravura who is in high demand as a model with beauty, heart and individuality.

As a teenager, Adwoa experimented heavily with drugs. Her addictions intensified as her career hit high-gear with her Italian Vogue cover. A few months earlier, the 'it girl' had attempted suicide.

Kilbane describes her subject as an "engaged, thoughtful, powerful woman" who makes her understand that solidarity is the antidote for the world we live in today. Adoah points to a tattoo on her wrists, a line from the poet Nayyirah Waheed’s book Nejma: “All the women. in me. are tired.” “I’m made up of many different women — my mum, sister, friends — who have all made me who I am. It reminds me that whatever I’m going through, there are lots of other women going through the same thing.”

Kerry Washington Talks Natural Hair In Allure US November 2017 & Trump At GLSEN Respect Awards

Actor and producer Kerry Washington covers the November 2017 issue of Allure magazine, styled byHanna Kelifa in 'Kerry On'. Photographer Sharif Hamza flashes Washington with an accompanying interview by Judith Newman the day after Charlottesville.

The duo meet at the Hammer Museum in LA, where Washington wants to experience the Gamelatron Sanctuary. In an honest, on-the-spot assessment reality check Newman writes:

While she is peacing out, I notice looming nearby an electric sign by the artist Sam Durant. It reads, simply, “END WHITE SUPREMACY.” We are having this interview the day after Charlottesville, and now I am supposed to be talking to one of the leading African-American actresses of our time about, um, moisturizer. This is very awkward for one of us. That one is not Kerry. I mention this to her.

Kardashian is a bit late for her simply-brilliant Allure interview with GQ writer Devin Friedman. When I say 'brilliant', the word applies to both humans. In fact, Friedman's writing sparkles -- not with the common broad-stroke, high-and-mighty intellectual condemnation of Kardashian's character on behalf of millions of Twitter minions -- but with verve and personal insights.

I can't remember when I last read such an insightful, entertaining and clever interview -- one definitely dependent on the creative and psychoanalytical talents of the writer.
