About Us

Anne of Carversville was created in 2007 as a personal blog by its owner Anne Enke. Anne was reading Angelina Jolie’s Esquire interview about activism and the beheading death of WSJ reporter Daniel Pearl in Pakistan in Feb, 2002.

Anne’s muse is Daniel Eldon, the young photojournalist stoned to death in Somalia in 1993. Dan’s parents agree that the connection is most interesting. She watched the WTC fall before her eyes in 2001 and moved to 90 West St. on the south side of the WTC site, when it reopened. Psychologically, Anne wanted to be part of the rebirth of lower Manhattan.

Fashion was always an important part of Anne’s life. She used her entrepreneurial skills on multiple projects including a 10-year stellar experience as a key merchant, director of product development and fashion director for Victoria’s Secret Stores. Anne resigned her position after the Angels came into being, convinced that the brand was being consumed by the male gaze and she wanted no part of the Victoria’s Secret mindset any longer.

Anne began seriously writing about fashion in 2010 and was a frequent critic of the lack of Black representation and also the dearth of women photographers in the fashion industry. She was a leading advocate for refugee models from Africa. At the same time Anne was deeply involved in fighting the brutal practice of flogging women in Sudan and had unusually strong connections in the region.

Today, Anne is deeply committed to the racial justice movement. Making a private trip to Charlottesville, Va after the white nationalist march and murder of Heather Heyer in August 2017, Anne moved to Virginia in 2020.

Her GlamTribal jewelry collection’s second debut was COVID-delayed but is in high gear for the Fall 2021 season. Anne has many exciting ideas around fashion, the arts, Black history , racial justice and community in her new Virginia location.
