Vogue Taiwan Ups Sustainability Commitment with 'Blooming Season' by Zhong Lin for April 2021

Photographer Zhong Lin [IG} shares deep sentiments around the shooting of Vogue Taiwan’s April 2021 cover story with two Tawainese models Chen Hsuan ‘Jessie’ Hsu and Jean Chang. The gorgeous fashion story ‘Blooming Season’ is styled by Joey Lin using brands like Bottega Veneta, Moschino, Stella McCartney and Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello. / Hair by Weic Lin; makeup by Shin Tsai

For this cover, every prop and set design were carefully thought out, revolving around the theme ‘To Nature, With Love’. We tried our best to minimise unwanted waste, making sure everyone was in line with one another during the preparation. The flowers were meticulously put together for the shoot. No extravagant set design, it is the bare minimum. No new materials were bought for creating the props, all collected from the trash to be reused then recycled again. The flowers were later adopted by the team after the shoot. The whole process was followed through the end of the shoot, it was fulfilling.

I really appreciate Vogue Taiwan and the team for staying true throughout the whole process. It was a heart-warming experience for me.

Vogue Taiwan Editor-in-chief Leslie Sun Sun Yi initiated the #VOGUE conscious environmental protection action, writing “We hope that from the editorial team to the daily life of readers and millions of fans in the community, we will consciously choose sustainable Eco-friendly lifestyle, love the earth together.”

The tagline VOGUE Is Conscious is presently on the Vogue Taiwan toolbar but not British Vogue or Vogue Poland. While there’s a general Conde Nast commitment to environmental action, this appears that at least now — with Earth Day on April 22 — the magazine is making a greater commitment around sustainability.

In discussing the April issue and cover story, Vogue Taiwan writes:

All creatures and creatures are the most precious asset of the earth, and human beings are just one part of it. We should learn to live in harmony with all things, rather than pretend to be a ruler. Therefore, the cover of the April issue does not take people as the theme. One version boldly and subversively covers the model’s face with a mask made of plants, and the other version compares human beings to flowers, creating a poetic touch with the reflection of flowers. The sense of.

The magazine also innovates by discussing — not only the fashion product credits —but also the floral images, how they’ve been used artistically and also botany 101 around each of the flowers and plants featured in the ‘Blooming Season’ fashion story.
