Stella McCartney’s Resort 2023 collection celebrated hitting its highest sustainable production bar ever: 85%. The designer’s instinctive desire to make her collection educational tools for Mother Nature turned to the concept of ‘rewilding’.

Never a finger-wagging voice of condemnation on the environment, McCartney added ‘rechilding’ and the magic of play to her marketing strategy turning towards 2023. Stella McCartney lovers will be digging into our minds and spirits to self-educate about ‘rewilding’ and ‘rechilding’.

“Let me say up front that NEVER have I met a brand with a 41-page Code of Ethics highly-visible in the footer of their website.

As an example of what responsible brands with heart are trying to achieve, Golden Goose is an incredible read. It’s so much to read, that I must finish it later. But that’s the point. I WILL be back.”

Patagonia News: Repair As a Radical Act

In December 2015, Rose Marcario — the former President and CEO of Patagonia declared that repair is a ‘radical act’.

For a company that creates garments meant to last beyond the life of the wearer, a new focus on repair was an even more radical act.

In June, 2021 Marcario abruptly left Patagonia, and sustainable hearts missed a beat. Had she become too political, suing the Trump Administration over Trump’s decision to shrink the size of two national monuments in Utah?

Discretion still abounds, but Marcario immediately joined the board of Boulder, Colorado, plant-based meat startup Meati.

Patagonia ‘Ironclad’ Guarantee

Patagonia made news this week, moving into the fast lane to raise the bar even higher on brands that repair.

In the next three years, Patagonia wants to repair 100,000 items under its new ironclad guarantee. Via WWD.

Higg Materials Sustainability Index

The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) use of the Higg Materials Sustainability Index — a form of fashion industry self-monitoring — is under credible threat of ‘greenwashing’ accusations.

At issue is the incomplete lifecycle being monitored by Higgs SMI.

Although H&M and Norrøna were the first brands to embed the rating system on their product pages, Nike, Primark, Walmart, Boohoo, Amazon and Tommy Hilfiger are among its 250 members.
