Helena Christensen | Google Images Unfiltered Search Jail

Working hard to get AOC out of Google Image jail for posting ‘indiscreet’ fashion photos, I’m not posting the new Reebok Helena Christensen ad for EasyTone trainers at here Anne of Carversville. (It’s posted Reebok-style on Sensuality News.)

We hope to resubmit our ‘request for reconsideration tomorrow’, after losing about 40,000 new uniques this month in our Google Image reclassification to ‘unfiltered’ search only.

After ripping AOC apart again to get us reinstated with Google Images, I’m not about to invite Christensen to show off her beautiful bod at my digital house. The ad reinforces the Smart Sensuality direction media is taking.

Showing this business trend here got me in big trouble. Note: most fashion images websites accept the restricted search. We can’t because only 5-10% of our traffic is driven by sensual photos.

Protecting Children, Dumbing Down Adults

In protecting children — as Google Images is correctly concerned with doing — we must ask: where do the adults suffer a serious loss of information? This is the current situation at Anne of Carversville, where we have praise heaped on us every day for our sophisticated approach to sensuality, women’s rights and body politics.

Just this week I was personally invited to join a group of 300 Muslim intellectuals on FB. If I’m not the only Westerner in the group, I’m one of a couple. Southern Baptist women in America write me, thanking us for having the courage to raise the politically-incorrect conversations that go on here at AOC.

When the Google Images problem began Easter weekend, I thought it was user-generated, but that’s not so. Since 2007, we’ve had one Google image complaint that over a British fish-holding activist.

Because our honest voice is popular in many countries, we can’t lose it in a restricted, filtered search. I know passion and admiration when I meet it, and we have that level of support among our readers.

Unfortunately, AOC was so strong in Google Images, that I neglected to build out other opportunities for attracting new readers. I knew it was a problem, but I’ve been dancing as fast as I can in this web development business.

We’ve fixed our strategic Google Images over-reliance in several new ways. Here’s a recap on the new Anne of Carversville websites:

Anne of Carversville

Anne of Carversville will continue in our expanded 2010 format. Only SFW (safe for work) photos will be on the website. I’ve erred on the side of conservatism, removing even photos from Allure and Bazaar magazines that are sold at Kroger’s grocery store checkout. Private Studio will continue, with art and style media photography that’s SFW.

Sensuality News

SN is a distinct website from AOC and will support our growing Sensuality News Facebook fan page on Facebook. SN will carry photos like the Reebok ad (see it unfiltered) and the Allure magazine photos. Sensuality News is trendier than AOC but thoughtful, too.

Sensuality News on Facebook

Our AOC Redtracker blog will upload directly to our Sensuality News Facebook page. We will post some news stories only on our FB fan page.

Anne of Carversville Shopping

We were working on a separate Anne of Carversville shopping website when the Google Images catastrophe struck. We should be in business by July 1, with a content-rich website, a superbly edited Amazon store setup and new affiliate relationships. We hope to use PBS products as a major anchor for our shopping experience, in addition to Amazon and new relationships.

Three new ‘quickie’ Tumblr blogs to feed our websites that also carry original posts from other blogs and websites. Tumblr is ‘blogging on the run’.

The new archive feature installed yesterday on all Tumblr blogs is so fabulous, that we will create Tumblr blogs for all our key categories here at AOC. Readers will be able to easily access and scan our rich and relevant content via the Tumblr blogging platform.

Both Sexy With Heart and Smart Sensuality are SFW — although I did just upload an Aubade lingerie visual with a bare breast. These image rules are all very challenging for me as a sensuality, lingerie expert. Very Sexy Sensuality News is not safe for work.

Sexy With Heart: young-woman’s style news

Smart Sensuality: SWH’s big sister. Older and more sophisticated. Also more political and greener.

Very Sexy Sensuality News: here you will find all the fashion and design visuals that got us in trouble with Google Images. VSSN is not safe for work, on the company computers.

As a business model, this interwoven strategy looks like we may have hit a ‘gusher’ and one that won’t cause any damage to the environment

Please cross your fingers for us, that we get reinstated in Google Images asap. And enjoy all the new changes we’ve made in response to a really bad problem for us. At Anne of Carversville, when the going gets tough, the tough — that would be us —  get going. Anne
