Viola Davis Celebrates Emmy

It was a historic might for Viola Davis at Sunday night’s Emmy Awards when she accepted the award for best actress for her role in ‘How to Get Away With With Murder’. It’s the first time a black woman won this award.

Taraji P. Henson — nominated for the same award for her work on ‘Empire’ —rose in a one-woman standing ovation after giving Davis a big, fierce-women hug.

“The only thing that separates women of color from everyone else is opportunity,” Davis said in her speech. “You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there.”

Deesha Dyer: Hostess with the Mostess?

Rookie Deesha Dyer Faces A Testing Week As White House Social Secretary NY Times

White House Social Secretary Deesha Dyer faces an awesome schedule this week — “the Super Bowl of Super Bowls says Jessica Andrews, speaking for the State Department’s chief of protocol.\President Obama will host Pope Francis on Wednesday before China’s president Xi Jinping arrives on Thursday with a White House state dinner for President Xi on Friday. “Deesha may have a nontraditional background for a social secretary, but she has all of the skills and characteristics to be a good social secretary,” said Lea Berman, a social secretary in the George W. Bush administration.

US Births To Unauthorized Immigrants Decline Over a Decade

Donald Trump would have you believe that the births of babies of unauthorized immigrants is soaring.

It is true that some women — and yes, Asian women — arrive in America for the sole purpose of guaranteeing that their babies are American citizens. USA Today wrote about ‘birth tourism’ among Chinese women in April 2015. Los Angeles and New York are big target cities.

PEW Research writes that the number of babies born to non-US citizens or legal immigrants has declined from a high of 370,000 in 2007 to 295,000 in 2013.
