Millenials In America And Globally Are Adopting Nomadic Lifestyles

Writing for The Culturist, Britany Robinson updates us on lifestyle trends among the Millennials. Facing masssive student debt, a dismal job market, and a business preference for hiring independent contractors with no benefits, Millennials are renters.

Buying a home is not high on their agenda, although they might be great candidates for a tiny house on wheels. Britany explains

With fewer jobs available, we’ve gotten creative with our careers. More of us are freelancing, consulting, running our own businesses, and working from coffee shops rather than cubicles. And with this shift in employment patterns, comes an intoxicating freedom to live where we choose. It’s a freedom that many of us are taking hold of, despite our parents hopes that we’ll eventually “settle down”.

The paramount mindset emerging among millions of Millenials worldwide is the very real option of choosing a nomadic lifestyle. America’s favorite word ‘freedom’ is taken literally by the Millenials.

After extensively interviewing over 60 millennials, Mic contributor James Wolfensbirger notes that the Millenials generation is, “quick to openly imagine themselves living and working in not just different parts of the country throughout phases of their lives, but in other nations as well.” Every Millennial Wolfensbirger surveyed answered “yes” when asked if they would move to another country for a job opportunity.

The necessity of redefining a quality life has been thrust down the throats of the Millenials. The American dream is fast becoming a thing of the past for so many. The very vision of ‘success’ is moving from fancy cars and designer brands to life fulfillment in a grand, global experience.

Strauss and Howe, leading scholarly researchers on generational theory, believe that the Millenials will be regarded as a Hero generation. armed with the tools to correct the major mistakes of the last 20-40 years with a different set of values and priorities.
