The '50 Shades of Grey' BDSM Devil Seduces in 'The Eternal Submission Collection'

To say that I’m in love with ‘The Eternal Submission Collection’, designed by Studio 6th Sense and photographed by Troy Wise is an understatement. I’m ecstatic and orgasmic because what we have is a sophisticated, clear-headed examination of the ‘50 Shades of Grey’ BDSM lifestyle that I — as a feminist and strong supporter of women’s rights — can embrace with enthusiasm.

Yes Shonda Robinson is beautiful, sexy and glamorous. And her master wears the accoutrements of wealth and money. The tradeoff for Robinson is obvious — and as an independent woman, it’s her right to make her own choices.

What I love about this campaign is that as glamorous as these Troy Wise images are — the male master is not Mr. Nice Guy. This is my fundamental resistance to this fantasy-world that women have created around ‘50 Shades of Grey’. This couple makes no attempt at intellectual depth. They may be as smug and self-absorbed as Mr. Grey and Miss Steele.

The real ‘9 1/2 Weeks’ — rather than the glamourized movie, that I adore — is not pretty or romantic at all. The true story woman very nearly died.

This ‘Eternal Submission Collection’ campaign presents the psychological case of BDSM honestly. Of course, it’s air brushed and romanticized — and blood and bruises aren’t obvious, although there’s lots of grey in the skin tones.

All I ask is that as ‘50 Shades’ sweeps the world at the same time women are losing so many rights here in America, that fashion includes the devil in the details of its portrayal of BDSM.

Men Obsessed | BDSM Is Not Romantic

There was no BDSM in Alfred Hitchcock’s possession of Tippi Hedren. But he was obsessed with her, obsessed with ‘owning’ her — and he destroyed her career when she refused to submit to him. He stalked her, made countless rules about her life when Hedren worked with Hitchcock. In reality, Tippi Hedren was smothered and her personal flame as a person would have died — had she not refused Hitchcock at the cost of her movie career.

BDSM is not romantic. I love this ‘The Eternal Submission Collection’ campaign arriving in the same week that in the real world of America, pastor Kevin Swanson — a man with a huge following — is polluting the digital airwaves at home and in poor countries around the world that women who use birth control have dead fetuses in our wombs. Swanson asserts this as a scientifically proven fact.

BDSM & Constitutional, Women’s Rights

After the vomiting, any self-respecting independent woman must look herself in the mirror and wonder what is going on in America. Swanson’s stupidity is complicated by the fact that we have a Supreme Court Justice Scalia who asserts that women have NO Constitutional rights in America — only the right to vote as earned via the 19th amendment.

Scalia and two other Republican justices — with Roberts as a swing justice — are prepared to send every right women have earned in America back to the individual states. Indeed, we would become prisoners in many states of the Republican War on Women, supported also by Blue Dog Democrats. For me at least, this life submission is not a romantic thought. It is not uniquely chivalrous as Phyllis Schlafly asserts in her arguments against an Equal Rights Amendment for American women.

The Downside of Hot, Sexy & Submissive

Many people have commented on Anne of Carversville’s unique content positioning — “telling women’s stories from fashion to flogging”.  When I conceived this phrase about 2009, it was in response to my political work against the flogging of 40,000 women a year in Sudan.

I had no idea that 45 million women around the world — and 20 million American women — would find flogging sexy and titillating in 2012-13, with Hollywood set to romanticize this hideously awful event in the ‘50 Shades of Grey’ movie.

These ‘Eternal Submission Collection’ images are ones that I can embrace in this strange psychological fusion of my life as a deeply sensual woman who loves men and hot sex, who understands the appeal of temporary submission as a turn-on, but who is also defiant against the forces that are determined to NEVER emancipate women here in America, in Africa, in the Arab world and elsewhere.

Only in Scandinavia, Denmark, Australia, Canada, New Zealand — and a few other countries — can women play ‘50 Shades’ once a week and or as a lifestyle, and know that they are not giving their political and economic rights away in the long run.

Female Submission Is NOT Natural & Neither Is ‘50 Shades of Grey’

Reality is that the true facts of women’s earlier lives are pouring out of archaeological records. Smart women and men, too, understand that women once ruled with much greater influence and power than today.

Female submission is NOT natural, or the entire foundation of humanity is a giant lie, based on evolving archaeological discoveries. Dial back before monotheism with its great stories about God being male and creating Eve as the ideal subordinate to Adam, and you have a very different view of women’s history.

Women’s lives are serious stuff and this is one fashion campaign that leaves my complex mind at rest! Really great work Shonda Robinson, Troy Wise and the entire team behind ‘The Eternal Submission Collection’, designed by Studio 6th Sense. ~ Anne
