Ana de Armas Talks Playing Marilyn Monroe in Sunday Times Style UK Magazine

Bond actor Ana de Armas covers the January 24, 2021 issue of The Sunday Times Style UK Magazine. The interview went to press before this week’s announcement that de Armas and Ben Affleck have gone their separate ways. Affleck is committed to remaining in Los Angeles to be close to his children and de Armas does not want to be LA-based.

Bond film ‘No Time to Die’ has yet another new release date of October 8, 2021.

The Cuban-born de Armas is now focused on playing legendary screen siren Marilyn Monroe in the upcoming film ‘Blonde’. Mastering Monroe’s signature breathy voice was “a big torture, so exhausting”, the star told the Times, adding “My brain was fried.”

The Netflix release of Andrew Dominik’s adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’ ‘Blonde’ (2000), a portrait of Norma Jeane is being produced by Brad Pitt. British Vogue reports that Oates’s verdict on the ‘Blonde’ rough-cut is one of high-approval and in sync with AOC’s own view of Marilyn Monroe.

“It is startling, brilliant, very disturbing and perhaps most surprisingly an utterly feminist interpretation,” she tweeted on 11 August. “Not sure that any male director has ever achieved anything [like] this.” While Netflix has yet to share an exact release date for the film, it is confirmed for 2021.
