Billie JD Porter interviews Stewart, fresh off her press tour for ‘Love Lies Bleeding’, where she plays “Lou – a seemingly nihilistic gym manager, whose world is turned upside down when she falls hard and fast for a female bodybuilder.”

The photographer praises Stewart’s generous and creative spirit at the photoshoot, which fell on the day of the world’s recent eclipse. The actor reciprocates, saying “I love working with Zoey. You can really try things and do wild shit.”

The Guardian reviewed ‘Love Lies Bleeding’ with a headline calling out Stewart as keeping it real “in a deliciously lurid outlaw romance.” Not stopping there, Wendy Ide writes “the relationship that ignites between them is sweaty, grubby and scorching hot”.

Talking about her film directorial debut film ‘The Chronology of Water’, Stewart tells Porter that she knew she had to leave town. Resisting the inherent pressures of filming the Imogen Poots-starring biographical drama in Los Angeles, Stewart and her team are headed to Latvia. The actor is candid about the reasons why.

"Look, I'm all about the way we make movies here [in the US], but I needed a sort of radical detachment. I am not a director yet. I need to make a student film. I can't do that here."

The actor has spoken multiple times about the challenges of bankrolling ‘The Chronology of Water’, which Stewart has embraced for seven years. Childhood sexual abuse, queer romance, BSDM, addiction and more disruptive topics dominate the film.

Stewart jazzes up the descriptors, saying the movie "is about incest and periods and a woman violently repossessing her voice and body, and it is, at times, hard to watch ... but it’s gonna be a f---ing thrill ride."
