Following on the heels of the Golden Globes serving a plant-based menu on January 5, Britain’s BAFTA 2020 awards (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) have asked all attendees at their upcoming February 2 event to either rewear an outfit they already own or to choose another sustainable option.

“Sustainability is very important to Baffta, and we’re doing more than ever before,” a spokesperson told us. “The goal is that the EE British Academy Film Awards 2020 will be carbon neutral, working towards having a net positive impact on the environment. From travel and food, to branding and materials, Bafta is ensuring the awards are as sustainable as possible.”

All attendees will be or have been provided with a sustainable fashion guide created by the London College of Fashion’s Centre for Sustainability, detailing how to dress more mindfully for award ceremonies. The guide includes renting clothes, buying vintage, or recycling from one’s own closet. We assume the stars will be wearing dazzling glamour from the house archives of famous fashion designers.

Designers including Stella McCartney, Phoebe English, Reformation and Rejina Pyo.carry 5-star credentials for their new fashions. Multiple stars including Bella Hadid, Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Aniston, Kim Kardashian West, and Rihanna have brought vintage Hollywood glamour back to the red carpet at recent events.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will attend the event. The Evening Standard writes that William currently serves as BAFTA president. William has the honor of awarding American film producer Kathleen Kennedy with BAFTA’s highest accolade the Fellowship. Lucasfilm president and Amblin co-founder, Kennedy is behind films like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

In May 2019, BAFTA issued its ‘Subtitles to Save the World’ report with its call to weave the topic of climate change into TV and movie narratives. BAFTA also share a “how to’ with detailed info on how to change the world.
