Birgit Kos + Irina Shayk Play At War Games For Dsquared2 Spring 2019 Campaign By Mert + Marcus

The urban warriors from Dsquared2 Spring/Summer 2019 fashion show are led by Birgit Kos and Irina Shayk in a new campaign shot by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott. Other models in the ‘romantization of combat’ campaign include Martijn Faaij, Barak Shamir, Paulo Spencer, Tommy Hackett, Janusz Kuhlmann, Deano Perona, Jordan Genidogan, Elliot Meeten and William Los./ Art direction by Giovanni Bianco; hair by Sam McKnight; make-up by Gordon Espinet.

Meeting in their city hangout, a disused railway station on the edge of the city, the urban pack appear in color-saturated scenes that mix the high energy of the collection and industrial elements of the setting of Milan’s Orobia Factory. Military codes and turn of the century style corsetry details on the accessories and ready-towear – including long, trailing laces – are captured in movement, flying when jumping a stair rail and riding bikes through the vast space.

Do not be fooled. The Dsquared team is not training to fight ISIS, like the brave Kurdish women soldiers. Attending a sneakers convention like the October 2018 one at Milan’s Orobia Factory is their next big priority. Unfortunately, these unbelievably brave Kurdish women are in serious danger of dying if the US pulls out 2000+ highly-trained military support staff working with the Kurds in Syria. Real life is so much more complicated — although I fully admit to liking and wearing utilitarian-inspired clothing inspired by the Kurdish women soldiers. And I use every fashion story opportunity to tell stories of brave women in military-related real life. ~ Anne

'The Architecture of Hair' Lensed By Ricardo Rivera With Models Awar Mou + Lisa Verberght

Vogue Italy launches our online week with a stunning series of images ‘The Architecture of Hair’ by Honduras-born, New York based photographer Ricardo Rivera. His work work was recently displayed in the October 2018 Photo Vogue Festival ‘Embracing Diversity Exhibition’ in Milan. The images feature models Awar Mou @ Red Model Management and Lisa Verberght @ Elite Model Management, styled by Lisa Jarvis.

It all started with hair. This series ‘The Architecture of Hair’ was a close collaboration between Rivera and hair stylist Erol Karadag imagining architectural and structured hairstyles using not so conventional materials like resin, sewing pins, and fruit nets. Influenced by everyday visuals in his tropical home country, scenes of outside markets are inspirational in DNA in Rivera’s image-making. This context inspires him to incorporate objects such as flowers and fruit and clothing that also highlighted the sculptural and colorful nature of the hairstyles into these images.

Naomi Campbell Covers British Vogue March 2019, Lensed By Steven Meisel With Kendrick Sampson

Supermodel Naomi Campbell covers the March 2019 issue of British Vogue, her first under Edward Enninful’s role as editor-in-chief. Sharing his thoughts about the special cover and shoot styled by himself, Enninful said: “Of course, the photographer had to be Steven Meisel. When Naomi works with Meisel, she practically becomes a teenager again, shy and focused, and so it proved during our two-day shoot in New York together at the tail end of last year. They know each other so well that they don’t really need words. Dancers came in, Kendrick Sampson (an actor and activist we both admire) played the role of her lover, and even her driver was pulled in to orbit around her. I hope you enjoy the result. It is the story of a real woman – and a genuine icon. “

Speaking of Sampson being an activist, this is his tweet on this Sunday morning, NFL Superbowl Sunday.:

NFL is a perfect example of the fact that diversity ALONE doesn’t solve racism, & that racist culture of essentially “you can have a seat at the oppressive table as long as you don’t affect my toxic masculine white supremacy (& you better be grateful” is alive and thriving.
