Vogue Italia September Has Gorgeous Adut Akech + Vilma Sjöberg Covers | Farneti's Words Confuse

Vogue Italia September Has Gorgeous Adut Akech + Vilma Sjölberg Covers | Farneti's Words Confuse

The September 2019 issue of Vogue Italia brings two covers into the world of fashion speak and imagination. "Peace" is the guiding idea of Mert & Marcus’s image of Vilma Sjölberg, while “Couture” inspires Paolo Roversi in his Adut Akech cover.

Also read the texts by Michael Cunningham for the September covers of Vogue Italia signed by Mert & Marcus and Paolo Roversi. Note that this text is taken directly from the Vogue Italia . AOC finds it a tad confusing, as international translation always struggles with s(he) pronouns in Google translator. Reality is that this issue of Vogue Italia is focused on the importance of words, adding a note of irony to this modern word editorial focus. Always looking for the good in a situation, I first attributed the excessive use of ‘he’ to Google translator.

Reading the Vogue Italia website translation of Farneti’s editor’s letter, it seems that the extensive use of ‘he’ is intended., that the male pronoun is dominant, in which case AOC is pretty pissed off. After all, the history of Rome is even worse than the fall of women’s influence and power under the Greeks. Italy put the nail in the proverbial women’s rights coffin.

Birgit Kos + Irina Shayk Play At War Games For Dsquared2 Spring 2019 Campaign By Mert + Marcus

The urban warriors from Dsquared2 Spring/Summer 2019 fashion show are led by Birgit Kos and Irina Shayk in a new campaign shot by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott. Other models in the ‘romantization of combat’ campaign include Martijn Faaij, Barak Shamir, Paulo Spencer, Tommy Hackett, Janusz Kuhlmann, Deano Perona, Jordan Genidogan, Elliot Meeten and William Los./ Art direction by Giovanni Bianco; hair by Sam McKnight; make-up by Gordon Espinet.

Meeting in their city hangout, a disused railway station on the edge of the city, the urban pack appear in color-saturated scenes that mix the high energy of the collection and industrial elements of the setting of Milan’s Orobia Factory. Military codes and turn of the century style corsetry details on the accessories and ready-towear – including long, trailing laces – are captured in movement, flying when jumping a stair rail and riding bikes through the vast space.

Do not be fooled. The Dsquared team is not training to fight ISIS, like the brave Kurdish women soldiers. Attending a sneakers convention like the October 2018 one at Milan’s Orobia Factory is their next big priority. Unfortunately, these unbelievably brave Kurdish women are in serious danger of dying if the US pulls out 2000+ highly-trained military support staff working with the Kurds in Syria. Real life is so much more complicated — although I fully admit to liking and wearing utilitarian-inspired clothing inspired by the Kurdish women soldiers. And I use every fashion story opportunity to tell stories of brave women in military-related real life. ~ Anne

"I've always studied how models made pictures," said Gigi, who had been staring intently at a mood board covered with photos of Harry from Blondie's heyday. "It’s always been important to me to make a picture better. I can look at a shot and see where I fit into it, what I can add to the picture. I don’t want to be just another person on the page.” She paused. “I want people to see the new picture with me and one day remember it the way we remember these pictures of Debbie Harry.” So then: Iconic? “Iconic!” Gigi said. “What else is there?”

Madonna At 60 Looks Forward For 'Madonna In Lisbon' In Vogue Italia August 2018

Madonna At 60 Looks Forward For 'Madonna In Lisbon' In Vogue Italia August 2018

Photographers Mert & Marcus move from capturing Oprah on the August issue of British Vogue to Madonna on the August 2018 issue of Vogue Italia

Initially, the magazine planned to celebrate Madonna's 60th birthday with a focus on her career and accomplishments, Vogue Italia creative director Giovanni Bianco told WWD in an exclusive interview that included editor-in-chief Emanuele Farneti. Bianco has worked with Madonna for 12 years on four CD covers, multiple tours and countless editorials.

This plan didn't suit Madonna at all, because "She doesn't want to talk about the past." Madonna's plan for her Vogue Italia feature was a focus on her children, her passionate love of music and horses, her projects for charity Raising Malawi and life in Lisbon.

Oprah Covers British Vogue August 2018, Telling Us To Embrace Activism & Happiness In Trumplandia

Oprah dazzles in a series of bespoke fashion created for her by Erdem, Christopher Kane, Simone Rocha, Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen in 'Oprah's Next Act', styled by British Vogue's Edward Enninful. Photographers Mert & Marcus capture Oprah as an empress sharing her thoughts on race, feminism, her Royal wedding appearance, the loves and losses in her life – and that rumored move into politics – in a rare one-on-one interview with writer Decca Aitkenhead./ Hair by Nicole Mangrum and Malcolm Edwards; make-up by Derrick Rutledge

Always America's spiritual healer, Oprah has choice words for Americans struggling under the onslaught of Donald Trump's dark, disruptive presidency. As for a presidential run, Oprah once again says 'no way'.

“In that political structure – all the non-truths, the bullshit, the crap, the nastiness, the backhanded backroom stuff that goes on – I feel like I could not exist,” Winfrey says. “I would not be able to do it. It's not a clean business. It would kill me.”

Winfrey goes on to explain how she squares her spirituality and self-help advocacy with the #Metoo and Time’s Up movements. "People talk about 'these are such dark times', but what if we shift the paradigm? Because I see it differently,” she asserts. “I see, 'Isn't this remarkable that we're waking up?' For years, women have endured craziness. This is what's happening to people. They're allowing themselves to not just become corroded, but to become hysterical. You've got to lean to the happiness."

In related news, Oprah will take that optimism to South Africa, joining Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, Femi Kuti, Gayle King and Bozoma St. John in Johannesburg on Dec. 2 for the 2018  Global Citizen Festival, aimed at ending poverty by 2030.

Oprah Covers British Vogue August 2018, Lensed By Mert & Marcus For Interview On Race, Feminism, & Her Future

Updated July 3 w/Edward Enninful's Editor's Letter

Powerhouse Oprah Winfrey is the cover star of the August 2018 issue of British Vogue. Lensed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, and styled by Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful, Oprah wears a custom-made taffeta gown by Stella McCartney and white-and-yellow-diamond and emerald earrings by Buccellati.

Inside the issue, the media icon discusses race, feminism, her Royal wedding appearance, the loves and losses in her life – and speculation that she may go into politics in a rare one-on-one interview with writer Decca Aitkenhead. The issue hits newsstands July 6.

British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful released his editor's letter on Tuesday. It's a lovely tribute to Oprah.

Of course, I wanted to do her as an empress. She is so magnificent, so awe-inspiring, and she really went with the idea. We approached six stars of British design to make bespoke fashions for her: Erdem, Christopher Kane, Simone Rocha, Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen. How fantastic to be able to put this global icon in a context that is so celebratory of British talent. Aside from that, Oprah absolutely loves clothes.
