Candice Swanepoel's Business Savvy Takes New Tropic of C into Art Basel Miami

There are moments in Candice Swanepoel’s life when she feels a traditional banker’s vibe. Perhaps she’s about to make a presentation to investment bankers about next-level funding for Tropic of Cancer [IG], her co-founded sustainable swimwear brand.

After all, the expert businesswoman knows that risk-averse investors would be impressed with pinstripes. Of course, co-founder Daniela Manfredi can also communicate the major excitement around Tropic of C swimwear, because its founders have not compromised their commitment to sustainability.

Sustainability Principles That Sizzle

It’s an interesting juxtaposition to have some of the most consistently sizzling photography in the swimwear industry, while leading with sustainable design. That’s a perfect marriage, one also advanced by frequent Tropic of C photographer Eduardo Bravin.

New Tropic of C Henna Pattern

Tropic of C swimwear shares a new henna pattern, giving us a light touch different from typical swimwear prints and patterns. The henna pattern also sits well against the weathered surfaces of Villa Parodi Delfino [IG], available for rental on the Amalfi coast, a 50-kilometer stretch of coastline along the southern edge of Italy’s Sorrentine Peninsula, in the Campania region.

Candice Swanepoel and Tropic of C tend to follow the global water routes, a business path that propelled her to Art Basel Miami in December.

Swanepoel also lives in Miami, and she launched the Tropic of C henna collection with curator Kimberly Drew, and Vogue's Elise Taylor.

The trio gathered an intimate group of friends for a luncheon with Vogue100, hosted at Jason Wright’s private residence.

Kimberly Drew is best known as the former social media manager for the Metropolitan Museum of Art and her use of the social media handle MuseumMammy [IG]. Drew is now with the Pace Gallery, and you can find her on Substack as Something I Saw.

The Art Basel luncheon brought together art collectors, philanthropists and some of Candice’s favorite artists, with the group enjoying the plant-based food prepared by Chef Anthony Garcia Montero.

Vogue wrote:

Swanepoel introduced Drew, who stood to address the crowd. “This year will mark my tenth Art Basel; if I have learned anything, it’s that Miami isn’t just a backdrop for art and commerce,” she began. “Miami and its culture are to be respected and uplifted in everything we do this week. There’s a vitality and spirit in Miami that I’m honored to witness every December.”

O’Miami poet Cherry Pickman shared her work, as a blessing for the meal and to position the luncheon on the spectrum of future artists and creators who will come know the Miami spirit.
