Anok Yai and Vittoria Ceretti Take Greenwich Village for Michael Kors Collection Fall 2023

Anok Yai and Vittoria Ceretti stroll together arm-in-arm in Greenwich Village and Washington Square Park for the Michael Kors Collection Fall ’23 campaign. Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin capture the two, very successful, fashion industry models styled in the theme of ‘Urban Bohemia.’

Gloria Steinem’s Ms. Magazine turned 50 last year, and Gloria herself is nearing 90. Michael Kors was inspired by not only Steinem in designing his Fall 2023 collection. The Kors moodboards this season were peppered with 1970s activist, determined women including Ali McGraw, Cher, Jane Fonda, Lena Horne, Tina Turner and more. Disciplined and laser-focused on change, these women also embraced Greenwich Village style — especially because of its proximity to New York University.

Gloria Steinem was sitting front and center, next to Anna Wintour, at the Michael Kors show. Steinem even had a bag named after her in the collection.

Kors reaffirmed in words what everyone was feeling: “For this collection, I was really thinking about the things that influenced me when I was coming of age in the ‘70s—the women who influenced me, the neighborhood that influenced me, and the combination of big city glamour and bohemia that I found in Greenwich Village at that time.”

As for Anok Yai and Vittoria Ceretti, the duo struts around the West Village neighborhood wearing favorites from the collection. And every woman of a certain age will recognize the outfits and OMG the fringe and car wash skirts.

Floor-grazing coats, knee-high boots and short shorts, body-hugging knits, fringed handbags, retro low-slung waist belts and shimmering jumpsuits — these clothes were worn by young women arriving in New York City from all over America.

Ready to change the world, women never dreamed that 50 years after Gloria Steinem founded Ms magazine, American women would again be in the fight of our lives— a fight for women’s rights, racial justice, LGBTQ+ rights, environmental rights — all the rights that are fundamental to progressive progress in the last 50 years.

This is the New York world of Michael Kors, and the designer really returned to his roots for this Fall 2023 campaign and his deep New York City roots.
