The Joys of Learning

Symbolizing prestige, excellence, and intellectual curiosity, Montblanc recognizes the unique power embedded within the pages of books that transport us to worlds beyond our own. The Library Spirit 2023 campaign aims to reignite the passion for literature that has, at times, waned in the face of digital distractions. It seeks to remind the world that books hold the key to expanding our horizons, cultivating our imagination, and enhancing our overall wellbeing.

Centered around the belief that the written word is an irreplaceable source of inspiration and knowledge, Montblanc's campaign celebrates the joy and wonders of reading. Through a series of thought-provoking events, and collaborations beyond this ad campaign, Montblanc establishes itself as the champion of intellectual pursuits, reminding us all of the profound impact stories can have on our lives.

In the Aggregate, an Informed Mind Is More Likely One Embracing Progressive Values

At the heart of the Library Spirit 2023 campaign lies the message that literature can unite us like nothing else. It fosters empathy, understanding, and compassion by allowing us to see the world through different lenses. Montblanc recognizes the importance of embracing diverse narratives and perspectives, unveiling a collection of limited-edition pens dedicated to literary giants whose words have shaped our understanding of humanity — the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Creating Thoughtful Communities

Moreover, the campaign invites book clubs, bibliophiles, and literary enthusiasts to take part in exclusive Montblanc-sponsored events, encouraging meaningful discussions, and fostering a sense of community. These events will provide a platform for sharing personal insights, encouraging the exchange of ideas, and forging connections that transcend borders and backgrounds.

Outreach to Young People

In addition, Montblanc's campaign will launch a series of initiatives that aim to inspire the younger generation to develop a profound appreciation for books. By partnering with schools and libraries around the world, Montblanc will create reading programs, donate books, and support educational initiatives that promote literacy. By intertwining the legacy of literature with Montblanc's refined elegance, the Library Spirit 2023 campaign envisions a world where books are once again treasured and revered.

Books Are Having a Moment

Checking in on America’s largest U.S. bookstore chain Barnes & Noble, with 600 stores, the company plans to open 30-40 new stores this year. Last year, Barnes & Noble opened 16 stores at the same Amazon was closing all 24 bookstores it had opened in 12 states and Washington, DC.

In 2019, Barnes & Noble was acquired by hedge fund Elliott Advisors after it bought British bookstore chain Waterstones in 2018.

In the case of Barnes & Noble, the local booksellers have regained control of displays and book presentations based on the local market. In the past publishers and the home-office controlled the decisions.

Book clubs —both local and digital — continue to thrive in our post-pandemic world. In fact, poetry is in breakout mode on Tik Tok and Instagram.

Book banning remains a serious political issue in America, frighteningly executed by a small number of people who impact the other 99%. Of over 1000 books banned in America, over half were reported by just 11 people. In a single school district in Utah, of the 205 filings, Nick and Hailey Foster were behind 199 of them.

But as to how large numbers of Americans are behaving, literary interests are in a state of true renaissance.
