The first lab results are in on the mysterious deaths of almost 400 elephants in Botswana , but the government is officially saying nothing firm. Other results from South Africa and Canada are due next week and an official statement will be made.

Bloomberg is the only media source reporting this information right now, but Mike Bloomberg has deep media ties and connections in Africa and he is a major supporter of saving the elephants. Their quote refers to a statement made on national television. But we must wait.

“Initial test results in Botswana eliminated known diseases that would cause mass deaths and this may signal “novel diseases,” the government said in a statement, according to state-owned television.”

I don't believe the words "novel diseases" would be used, if farmers were in any way involved. There's huge conflict in Botswana between the two groups, but it makes no sense that farmers could be poisoning this many elephants and the govt wouldn't know. It would be devastating if farmers are behind this, but it appears not -- unless a whole lot of officials are involved in a coverup.
