At Home in Paris with ‘Venus de Milo’

The ‘Venus de Milo’ statue now lives armless at the Louvre in Paris, on display permanently after being discovered on the island of Milos, Greece in 1820. Scholars believe that the statue was created during the Helenistic period, sometime between 150 and 125 BC by Alexandros of Antioch.

‘Venus de Milo’ is larger than life, at 6’8” tall before being placed on a pedestal.

Blueblood or Not?

In 2003 The Smithsonian Magazine shared an in-depth investigation of the full story about the ‘Venus de Milo’ statue, once she was ‘adopted’ by the French.
