Rihanna Strikes Back | Video & Excerpts of Rolling Stone Interview

Rihanna stirs up lots of conversation in her Rolling Stone interview, particularly when she talks about her love life, her relationship with her father and the physical abuse she suffered from former boyfriend Chris Brown.

In the months after Chris Brown brutalized her, Rihanna admits: ‘I put my guard up so hard. I didn’t want people to see me cry. I didn’t want people to feel bad for me. It was a very vulnerable time in my life, and I refused to let that be the image.’

Speaking of her own tendency to be masochistic, Rihanna talks about her love-hate relationship with the media: “When I think about it, I really do take some pleasure in the negativity. I don’t want to say I’m turned on by it — but I’m turned on by it.”

The juicy bits in her interview focus on life in Rihanna’s bedroom, where she ‘loves to be tied up and spanked. I like to be whipped, and it’s funny that I care. But I prefer to be spontaneous.’ Absolutely she is ‘submissive in the bedroom’.

‘It’s not something I’m proud of, and it’s not something I noticed until recently. I think it’s common for people who witness abuse in their household. They can never smell how beautiful a rose is unless they get pricked by a thorn.’

The last time I even suggested that there was a connection between BDSM and enjoyment of being abused, it was a monster mess. So I’ll just let Rihanna’s words stand without comment. Anne
