Emmanuel & Brigitte Macron Meet With Bono & Rihanna On Global Poverty Aid

France's First Lady Brigitte Macron and French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed Irish superstar Bono to the Elysee Palace on Monday, where they had an hour-long meeting on key topics in solving global poverty. Bono, appearing with Brigitte Macron, said that a strong focus of the dialogue was educating girls and women in Africa. 

Bono met with the Macrons in his capacity as founder of the NGO ONE, dedicated to fighting extreme poverty. Bono said that the French president, who has seen a 10 pt pt. drop in ratings since he assumed office, will boost its aid budget to 0.55 percent of gross domestic product by 2022.

NGOs worldwide is reeling against the pullback of funding for their critical work on global poverty and social issues, led by massive cuts in the Trump administration. 

Previously, Bono has met with French presidents Jacques Chirac, Nicolas Sarkozy and Francoise Hollande. Bono received the Legion of Honor, the highest French award of merit in military and civil contributions, in 2003.

Rihanna, with the philanthropic backing of French luxury brand Dior and its creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, is set to meet with President Macron on Wednesday. Riding the success of her new song 'Man Down', RiRi will arrive atElysee Palace to promote her humanitarian organization Clara Lionel Foundation. The superstar is also an ambassador for the Global Partnership for Education, an alliance announced in September 2016.
