Salma Hayek Helps Launch 'Latinos for Hillary'

'Chime for Change', founded by Gucci and Salma Hayek's husband Francois Henri Pinault, a chief stockholder of Gucci’s parent company Kering, recruited some of the most glamorous, activist leading ladies to work on the empowerment of women and girls around the world.

Two weeks ago Salma Hayek was in Central Park, joining forces with Beyonce and other Chimers to co-sponsor the exhilarating Global Citizen concert, in which Beyonce brought down the evening sky with her activist battle cry for women everywhere in the world.

Now Salma Hayek has turned her attention to the Hillary Clinton campaign, helping the candidate to launch 'Latinos for Hillary'.

“We are one of the largest, youngest, and fastest-growing groups in the United States of America,” Hayek wrote in announcing her support of Hillary. “We deserve a candidate who respects the contributions we have made to this country and understands how important it is that our community continues to thrive, all while treating us con dignidad y respeto.”

Latina reports that Hayek's email also said:

We cannot let hate and discrimination determine the outcome of this election,” Hayek said. “We owe it to the hard-working Latinos that came before us, to ourselves and to our children, to show the people who unfairly label us as criminals and speak down to us that our community is strong, meaningful and incredibly powerful.

Clinton kicked off “Latinos For Hillary” with an interview with Telemundo’s Maria Celeste Arraras in Miami on October 2, during which the candidate committed to a 100-day timeline to review the current immigration system if elected president, Telemundo reported.

Clinton's first organizing event is expected to be Oct. 15 in San Antonio. Several Latino house parties have even been organized to coincide with the first Democratic debate Oct. 13, according to the campaign.

Latino celebrities, elected officials and community leaders have reportedly enlisted to help with the campaign, and will begin announcing their public support for Clinton, who is scheduled to co-present an award tonight in Washington at the CHCI 38th Annual Awards Gala. Hillary will take part in the presentation of the CHCI Chair’s Medallion Award to world-renowned chef José Andrés, who is being honored by CHCI Chair Rep. Linda T. Sánchez for his work to eradicate hunger and poverty around the globe.

Hillary got a big hug from Marc Anthony in Miami last week when the salsa star announced his support for her and encouraged his fans to get out the vote for Hillary. Last May the Clinton campaign hired 26-year-old Dreamer Lorella Praeli, then head of United We Dream -- the biggest youth-led immigration and advocacy group in the nation -- as the campaign's director of Latino outreach.
