South Dakota Bill Will Make Killing of Abortion Providers "Justifiable Homicide"
Tue, February 15, 2011
Any American who is wondering if American women are under assault by Republican men has an answer. We will submit, or they will kill us. Anne was stalked for a year by a man who was intent on killing her after Roe vs Wade became law, so we know they mean business.
The Republican-led South Dakota legislature has passed out of committee House Bill 1171, expanding the definition of “justifiable homicide”, making it legal to kill doctors who perform abortions.
The language of the bill suggests it reaches beyond abortion doctors. We are trying to understand the scope of the bill, but it certainly reads like it puts all Planned Parenthood counselors at risk of being murdered. We’re not being smart here. Does this bill legalize honor killings in America? Can a father justifiably kill his daughter for having a legal abortion?
The bill, sponsored by state Rep. Phil Jensen, a committed foe of abortion rights, alters the state’s legal definition of justifiable homicide by adding language stating that a homicide is permissible if committed by a person “while resisting an attempt to harm” that person’s unborn child or the unborn child of that person’s spouse, partner, parent, or child. If the bill passes, it could in theory allow a woman’s father, mother, son, daughter, or husband to kill anyone who tried to provide that woman an abortion—even if she wanted one. via Huffington Post
