Lauren Wasser's Bionic Beauty by Isaac Anthony for Paper Magazine

Bionic woman Lauren Wasser is styled by Jenny Haapala in images by Isaac Anthony for Paper Magazine’s Winter issue. Laura Pitcher narrates what began as Lauren’s Cinderella story of a high-cheekbones baby modeling in Vogue Italia at age two.

Wasser continued to model, even after losing both legs to TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome) at age 24. Wasser, the 5’11” daughter of model parents, first shared her story with VICE in 2015, explaining that she feels a duty to stand for TSS survivors without a platform.

"If men's dicks were falling off, this wouldn't be an issue," Wasser says. "But because it's a women's health issue, we're not recognized, and that's why I'm fighting for us."

Her physical characteristics and great legs make her a natural model to push for the inclusion of disability on fashion runways.

It seems that all we do is to write about Rihanna these days, but Wasser walked the Savage x Fenty show AND — oh, please, why are we not surprised — Wasser is also modeling for H&M.

So . . . Victoria’s Secret . . . if you really want to change your image, how about Lauren Wasser. Six months ago, we’re on record for Winnie Harlow, too. Now Winnie may pass, but we’d like to know that VS is all in on women we love. . . . and Rianna loves . . . and H&M loves, because these are all very inclusive and ethics-aware brands in 2019.

Back to Lauren Wasser for Paper Magazine, Wasser’s advocacy for change in the feminine care industry has shown she’s not a one-moment wonder but rather embedded in TSS and related issues for the long haul. At this moment, Wasser is in ecstacy about her new prosthetics, which will finally allow her to wear heels. Read on at Paper Magazine.
