Joan Smalls | Alasdair McLellan | 'Foxy Lady' | V Magazine #70

If only we could get American women as fired up about the erosion of women’s rights today, as we were about demanding our rights in the 1970s, I’d be one happy woman.

Joan Smalls, lensed by Alasdair McLellan for V Magazine #70, reminds us of the years when women marched in the streets and Afros were real symbols of fierce women, not scowls on the fashion runway.

Female, feminine, ferocious and foxy — Joan Smalls rocks in Miu Miu, Valentino, Marc Jacobs and more, styled by Beat Bolliger.

Perhaps an incident like trying to eliminate public service unions in Wisconsin will get American women fired up again. A new law is being introduced in 22 states, that will prevent an abortion on a timetable that will often expire before a woman even knows she pregnant is now being introduced around the country.

Does that new reality get a rise out of any young women in America? Anne
