Hailey Clauson | Sebastian Kim | Numero #124 Tribal

Phoenix Rising| Sebastian Kim makes a magnificent capture of Hailey Clauson as a truly tribal woman — a goddess of goddesses for Numero #124. Charles Varenne styles Hailey in Prada, Yves Saint Laurent and Gucci in a stunning editorial.

Runaway Female Hominids

Just today researchers in a high-tech study led by the University of Colorado Boulder determined that — contrary to expectations — the males of two bipedal hominid species that roamed the South African savannah more than a million years ago were stay-at-home guys, compared to the females who left their groups to make a new life with a non-related hominid.

This reality was determined by DNA dental evidence and totally turned upside down anthropological understandings of early hominids.

The female dispersal pattern believed seen in the two hominid groups is similar to that of many modern humans, chimpanzees and bonobos. But it is a dispersal pattern unlike most other primates — including gorillas — where the females stay with the group they are born into and the males move elsewhere. This study gets anthropologists closer to understanding the social structure of ancient hominids, one that could upend major assumptions about gender relations.

The bonobos, an endangered species living only in the Congo, remain matriarchal today and are a big focus at Anne of Carversville. Bonobos make love, not war. Sex, sex, and more sex. More than the Sixties.
