About Mérida, Mexico

Mérida is the vibrant capital of the Mexican state of Yucatán, an international city of creative souls from Mexico, America and across Europe.

The city was founded in 1542 by Francisco Montejo y Leon as a Spanish colonial city on the site of the ancient Maya city of T'ho. The city quickly became an important political, cultural, and economic center in the Yucatán Peninsula.

Throughout its history, Mérida has been influenced by various cultures, including the Maya, Spanish, and more recently, Lebanese and French immigrants. Today, Mérida has a vibrant cultural scene, and rich culinary traditions that blend indigenous and European flavors.
