Top of the list earth goddess Candice Swanepoel travels to fashion’s fav place Puglia, Italy to pose in new Tropic of C sustainable swimwear style and color updates. Eduardo Bravin [IG] photographs Tropic of C’s new metallic shade serpentine.

AOC’s radar went on full alert with the word ‘metallic’, as my own environmental footprint manufacturing Victoria’s Secret fabric in South Korea was a D-. Seriously, I was probably the biggest polluter of rivers and streams in the country for a decade.

Obsessed with metallic-infused colors and fabrics, I couldn’t understand why American-made fabrics were so dull and never caught the light in a shimmering sort of way. Answer: those dye chemicals were banned in America.

Checking out Candice’s Tropic of C website, I didn’t find a clear answer on her metallic fabrics — although I seriously doubt she would cut any corners on the sustainability front.

What I did determine is that ECONYL® regenerated nylon, the main yarn used in Tropic of C swimwear, does have a solid track record with using metallic yarns.

Last January, another ECONYL client Delos Rugs launched the Shiny Objects Collection, a new line of customizable rugs. made from eco-friendly wool that has been infused with ECONYL® 100% regenerated nylon.

It’s the metallic-effect nylon that is creating the shimmer. And the answer to metallic-effect yarn might not involve an additive. Since the yarn is recycled and reformulated trash, metallic trash may be in the ECONYL recipe. AOC’s inquiring mind wants to know. ~ Anne
