The Obamas Sign Multi-Year Netflix Deal To Produce & Perform In Series, Films & Documentaries

President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama have signed a multi-year agreement to produce various series, film, and documentaries for Netflix, reports Politico.

While the former president has said that the couple's intent is not to criticize the Trump administration or social conservatives, reality is that Netflix's almost 120 million global subscribers give the Obamas a significant platform for influence on key issues that matter to them -- like health care, immigration and nutrition.

“One of the simple joys of our time in public service was getting to meet so many fascinating people from all walks of life, and to help them share their experiences with a wider audience,” Obama said in a statement. “That’s why Michelle and I are so excited to partner with Netflix – we hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voices who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the entire world.”

Prince Harry Joins Obamas To Kick Off Inauguration Of Obama Foundation Summit In Chicago

Prince Harry joined Michelle Obama on Tuesday, kicking off the inaugural summit of the Obama Foundation. “During this inaugural Summit, hundreds of leaders from around the world will come together to exchange ideas, explore creative solutions to common problems, and experience civic art, technology, and music from around the world,” reads the Obama Foundation’s site.

Harry joined the former First Lady in a meeting with about 20 students at Hyde Park Academy across the site from the future site of the Obama Presidential Center. Caroline Adler Morales, Obama’s communications director, told People that they discussed “the importance of young people staying inspired and hopeful, and the transformative power of students using their voices to change the world.” Harry is scheduled to give a headliner speech, where he’ll likely talk about his Full Effect program, which supports at-risk youth in the U.K.

President Obama was scheduled to speak at 3 pm Tuesday and Prince Harry will take the podium at 6:15 pm. The former first lady spoke Tuesday morning at 11:45 am.

Obama's Charlottesville Tweet Citing Nelson Mandela Is Officially The Most Popular Ever

Obama's Charlottesville Tweet Citing Nelson Mandela Is Officially The Most Popular Ever

A nation needing warmth and a steady voice to calm our breaking hearts over Charlottesville got a digital hug Saturday night from our beloved President Obama. In what became the most popular tweet in Twitter history, Obama countered images of Nazi symbols and white supremacists marching in Charlottesville with the words of Nelson Mandela.

As we wept over the domestic terror car attack that killed progressive Charlottesville counter-protester Heather Heyer, part of a group that was leaving the area, Obama shared an impromptu snap from New Orleans, where he stopped for a quick chat with kids.

“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion,” Obama tweeted on Saturday evening, putting the Nelson Mandela quote before the world.

Trump Slams Civil Rights Hero Ga. Rep. John Lewis On MLK Honorary Weekend

President Barack Obama's Address in Selma March 7, 2015

When President-elect Donald Trump denigrated the personal history of Ga. Rep. John Lewis this weekend -- after Rep. Lewis said that he questioned the legitimacy of America's presidential election with the Russians doing Trump's bidding -- it seems like this 2017 Martin Luther King Jr. Day is best honored with my review and full text of President Obama's historic March 2015 Selma speech

For Donald Trump -- who discredited President Obama for years with his birther claims -- to become indignant over Rep. Lewis' opinion and then turn like an attack dog on Lewis is more than I can stomach. This archives article details not only the events around Selma, in which John Lewis was nearly killed, but also the subsequent march to Montgomery, Alabama led by the Rev. Martin Luther King and his wife Coretta.

On this reverential weekend in America, President-elect Donald Trump has chosen to unleash a high-profile feud with people of color and all progressives and Americans of conscience who have not forgotten Rep. Lewis' near-death experience in Selma.  The New York Times explains with In Trump's Feud With John Lewis, Blacks Perceive a Callous Rival.
