Forbes axed a column and future columns from contributor Bill Frezza, an MIT graduate and alumni president of MIT’s Lambda Chi Alpha chapter, after Frezza’s column Drunk Female Guests Are The Gravest Threat To Fraternities hit the digital airwaves. Forbes quickly pulled the column but not before Gawker Media jumped on it. Jezebel has reprinted the column for posterity.

Frezza, who writes that he chronicles “the decline and fall of entitlement democracy” argued on Forbes last month:

As recriminations against fraternities mount and panicked college administrators search for an easy out, one factor doesn’t seem to be getting sufficient analysis: drunk female guests.

Clearly the threat of drunk coeds is front and center in Frezza’s mind. Last month, his Ban Kegs From Fraternity Parties? Require Them Instead column described the scope of the problem:

I have the privilege of serving as the president of the alumni corporation for my MIT fraternity. This puts me in the role of loco parentis to 40 college boys, a responsibility I take seriously. While MIT undergrads may not be entirely representative of the country’s college students, even the smartest kids are still capable of doing stupid things. And if you think teenage boys can be stupid when it comes to alcohol, the girls seem to work overtime to do them one better. I have witnessed 95-pound, 18-year-old coeds standing in line outside a fraternity party chugging fifths of vodka because they know they won’t be served once inside. (They call it pre-gaming.) Does anyone really believe this is safer than allowing them to sip on a beer?

A small, 2009 study of 500 students on five universitty campuses found that students placed in coed housing are much more likely to binge drink each week than students living in gender-specific housing. 42 percent of students in coed housing reported binge drinking on a weekly basis, while only 8 percent of students in gender-specific housing reported the same.

In reporting on the April 2014 death of Arizona State University freshman Naomi McClendon, who plunged to her death from the balcony of a tenth-story apartment, Emily Holmstead cited the issue of the $30 unlimited-drink ticket for the party sponssored by Alpha Epsilon Pi, a banned and not recognized fraternity.

According to The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, half of college students who drink alcohol also binge drink, and 1,825 college students are killed by drunken accidents every year.

Meet the College Women Who Are Starting a Revolution Against Campus Sexual Assault New York Magazine

In a Mattress, a Lever for Art and Political Protest NYTimes

Emma Sulkowicz insists that she had only “a sip of gin-and Sprite” the night she alleges that Paul, a Columbia University student with whom she had experienced consensual sex on two prior occasions months prior.

One night there was a party for the orientation leaders. In the ivy-covered courtyard outside Wien Hall, Paul kissed Sulkowicz, who says that she was sober except for a sip of gin-and-Sprite. He was buzzed and carrying a handle of vodka. While they were having consensual sex in her dorm room, she alleges that he suddenly pushed her legs against her chest, choked her, slapped her, and anally penetrated her as she struggled and clearly repeated “No.”

Two other women also charged Paul with sexual assault with the university ruling against him in one case. The ruling was withdrawn when Paul appealed to the dean of his school at Columbia.

UAE’s female fighter pilot leads airstrikes against ISIL The National

UAE’s ambassador to the United States Yousef Al Otaiba confirmed on Thursday that the country’s first female fighter pilot Major Mariam al-Mansouri led UAE military forces in recent action against ISIL/ISIS and will lead UAE forces on future missions.

“Actually, funny story is, the U.S. tanker pilots called in for air refueling and asked for the UAE mission, and when they heard a female voice on the other side, they actually paused for about 20 seconds, radio silence,” the ambassador said on Morning Joe.

Domestic Violence Kills More People Than Wars, Global Study Finds Think Progress

The Copenhagen Consensus Center estimates that domestic abuse, perpetrated largely on women and children worldwide, costs about $9.5 trillion dollars each year, making it a far greater cost to societies than wars which are estimated at $170 billion.

The findings come on the heels of another recent report detailing the “shockingly” high levels of abuse and violence against children. That study, conducted by UNICEF, revealed that many children are growing up in a world where they assume that domestic violence is simply inevitable. For instance, half of all girls between the ages of 15 and 19 believe a man is “justified” in hitting his wife.
