Joining an illustrious lineup of female actors who have played Princess Diana, Debicki says that in her view, Princess Diana “defended herself valiantly” and not as the “fragile, superficial, spoiled child” the media tried to create.

Debicki finds Diana to be very modern and very feminist, inspiring women around the globe to express themselves without fear. The actor refuses to portray the Princess of Wales as merely a rebellious or capricious princess. Instead, her Diana is “a revolutionary princess, the one who was the first to break taboos by breaking the court silence.”

Writer Isabelle Girard uses an intriguing phrase to describe Diana’s public life, explaining that the princess “never found her place between shadow and light. It is this ambivalence that characterizes her.”
