American Ballet Theatre's Misty Copeland, now one of the most prominent dancers in the world, is featured on Esquire's The Women We Love of Instagram. Copeland is currently touring productions of 'The Firebird', 'La Fille Mal Gardee', 'Le Corsaire', 'Swan Lake', and 'Romeo and Juliet'.
A San Pedro California native, Misty Copeland will return to Los Angeles in July for two performances of The Firebird at the Dorothy chandler Pavilion on July 7 and 9. Copeland, who became the company’s first black prima ballerina last year, will dance the leading role in choreographer Alexei Ratmansky’s version of the Igor Stravinsky classic with a principal cast that includes fellow Southern California native Stella Abrera.
We learned this week that years before Misty Copeland became famous for her Under Armour ads and her brilliant dancing with American Ballet Theatre, she caught the eye of Prince, who flew her to Los Angeles to dance in his music video for 'Crimson and Clover'. Misty also danced in Prince's 'Welcome 2 America' concerts at Madison Square Garden and New Jersey's Izod Center.
