Angelina Jolie's newest project 'The Breadwinner' narrates the story of Parvana, an 11-year-old Afghan girl who dresses as a boy in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, where women were not allowed to work or attend school. Determined to feed her family, Parvana inspires Jolie to contribute to Harper's Bazaar 150th anniversay, as she shares her thoughts on women's rights and our responsibilities as stewards of the environment and our earth.

Jolie's essay begins with a historical jolt, taking us back to the founding of Harper's Bazaar:

'Bazaar' was first published in America just two years after the end of the Civil War and the abolition of slavery. It was a world without cars, modern antibiotics, or electric lighting. Most people did not live beyond their 50th birthday, and it was still common for women to die in childbirth.

As a woman, for much of the 19th century in most Western countries, you couldn’t go to university, and entire professions, like medicine, science, and law, were closed to you. You couldn’t vote and wouldn’t win that right in many countries for more than half a century.

One would assume, concludes Jolie, that 150 years later, women have made tremendous advances. And we have.  Yet the World Economic Forum predicts that it will take 83 years for the gender gap between women and men to close in all countries. "This is not about progress for women at the expense of men, but about finding an equal balance that benefits everyone. Eighty-three years seems far longer than anyone, man or woman, would ever hope for or imagine."

Angelina Jolie is the founding muse of Anne of Carversville., created the website in an instant as a personal blog in June 2007. I've followed Angelina around the world for a decade, with AOC often living vicariously through her humanitarian efforts.

Jolie writes from N/a’an ku sê in Namibia's Hamib desert.  AOC announced the birth of Shiloh, introducing our friends to Marlice and Rudie van Vuuren.

The reserve is run by the N/a’an ku sê Foundation, led by my friends Marlice and Rudie van Vuuren. Our daughter Shiloh was born in Namibia, and our family has worked with Rudie and Marlice on conservation in that country over the past decade. For me, Namibia represents not only ties of family and friendship but also the effort to find the balance between humans and the environment so crucial to our future.

It's time to gather all our Angelina treasures in one place, because her voice is our voice.  In the unplanned growth of AOC and my then lack of understanding on web construction, Jolie is split into many fragments, and it's time to bring her back together in a cohesive evolution.

Note that I've taken heat on Angelina and women's advancement from the Bernie Bros, who have the audacity to criticize Jolie as being an empty vessel opportunist. Yes -- the anti-woman, LIBERAL Twitter posse finds Jolie to be unworthy of their respect -- and mine, too. They demands that I stop writing positively about her, as they harassed me to death for standing behind Hillary. These are not Russian bots, not the alt-right in disguise. In several cases, they are men I've dated n the recent past. Think about that reality -- the assertion that lefty men will tell me how to think. Reflect on that undemocratic principle for a good, long time.

Those same bros -- coupled with the white nationalist Christians and ultra-conservative Muslims and Jews -- caused me to shut down comments on AOC in 2012, so you can't share your own thoughts.  For my own emotional and psychological sanity, I will not turn them back on, as these men far and wide are totally committed to denying the advancement of women in America and around the world. The truth is that we must go forward for the salvation of our planet. AND WE WILL until we have no fight left in us.  ~ Anne
