Mario Sorrenti, Not Steven Meisel Gets Pirelli 2012 Calendar

Updated Dec. 6, 2011: All 25 2012 Pirelli Calendar images in very artistic, 1000 dpi presentation.

Correct that: Pirelli casting director Jennifer Starr reports via StyleCaster that it’s Mario Sorrenti, not Steven Meisel who will shoot the 2012 Pirelli Calendar.

To be really honest — there nothing I’ve written about Steven Meisel that I wouldn’t write about Mario Sorrenti. Both men truly adore sensual women. Mario may see women even more as goddesses, but I’m splitting hairs here.

After two years of the ‘wrong’ photographer for the Pirelli Calendar, we’re thrilled with the undenied rumor that Steven Meisel, who does Smart Sensuality fashion editorials par excellence, will lens the 2012 Pirelli Calendar.

Karl Lagerfeld brought his rigid fashion monasticism and not an ounce sensuality to the 2011 calendar, while Terry Richardson porn-trashed the 2010 calendar.

Steven Meisel is a perfect mix photographer who brings smarts, sensuality and heart — or social commentary with controversy— to almost all of his work. Bravo!

This controversial Steven Meisel editorial ‘Make Love Not War’ appeared in Vogue Italia, September 2007.
