The question on the minds of many Hillary Clinton supporters is why millennial voters seem so casual about a Trump presidency -- a fate so critical for them that their lives will be turned inside out for decades if they are women, people of color, LGBTQ people, Muslims, atheists and all combinations of this not-exhaustive list of possibilities.

Kirchick cites research about American millennials that also was a jaw-dropper for me when I read it.

One of the most disturbing poll results I have ever read is the recent World Values Survey finding that only 31 percent of Americans born in the 1980s say it is “essential” to “live in a country that is governed democratically.” That figure compares to about 44 percent in Europe, where the memory of totalitarianism is both physically and temporally closer. We American millennials take our freedom and prosperity for granted. My generation has so little experience of authoritarianism and illiberalism that over two-thirds of us basically say we wouldn’t mind living in a non-democratic society. Because we have no historical reference points, when we see Trump, we think only of a silly reality television show star, not a nascent dictator.

If Trump wins, we’ll get what we deserve.

At the end of Donald Trump's absurd Friday morning presentation in which he admitted that President Obama was born in the United States, while also perpetuating the lie that Hillary Clinton started the birther movement, while he -- Trump -- "finished it", members of the Congressional Black Caucus were livid.

Speaking in advance of Trump's late morning press scam where the candidate promoted his new Washington Hotel, introduced lots of generals and admirals who support him, and spent a few seconds at the very end on the 'birther' issue, Hillary expressed her own views on Trump. 

"He's feeding into the worst impulses, the bigotry and bias that lurks in our country," Clinton said in a speech at the Black Women's Agenda Symposium Workshop in Washington, D.C. "Barack Obama was born in America, plain and simple. And Donald Trump owes him and the American people an apology."

For over a year Donald Trump and his campaign have told voters and the American press that after an audit is over, the Republican candidate will release his tax returns. Yesterday -- out of the blue -- Trump's eldest son basically said the tax returns will not be released at all and for two reasons.  1) the tax filings are too voluminous at 12,000 pages for voters to digest, and 2) the files would distract voter attention from the important issues in this election.

In so many words, Trump Jr. acknowledged that his father did not want the scrutiny that would come with releasing his federal income tax returns — in spite of a decades-long tradition. Everyone in America would be pouring over the returns and asking too many questions.

“You’re just allowing everyone to be an independent auditor,” he added. “It just doesn’t make a lot of sense.”

Hillary Clinton has already released her full returns dating back to 1977, and they portray the Clintons as high-rate tax payers and very generous philanthropists. 

Sanders Urges Those Considering Third-Party Candidates to Vote for Clinton Talking Points Memo

The truth is that Bernie Sanders did a superb job of convincing especially young voters that Hillary Clinton was the worst thing that could happen to America. While Sanders' supporters aren't going for Trump, they appear to be hurting Clinton more than Trump in supporting third party candidates, the Libertarian candidate more than the Green. There is also serious concern about not voting at all. Sanders said yesterday that after this Senate session ends, he will take off a couple days and then campaign nonstop for Clinton until election day. Presumably, he will spend much time on college campuses.

This Morning, Senator Sanders was on Morning Joe, explaining why his supporters must vote for Hillary Clinton.

" Asked about a New York Times/CBS News poll released Thursday showing that a third of voters under the age of 30 plan to vote for third-party candidates, Sanders offered his “pitch” to those younger voters, who overwhelmingly supported him in the Democratic primary."
