Vatican Again Uses Words 'Petty Gossip" To Denounce Media

GlobeTracker| In Rome Cardinal Angelo Sodano began Easter Sunday Mass by breaking with tradition. Using a term that’s been part of the Vatican’s vocabulary these past few weeks, the Cardinal began the mass saying:

“Holy Father, the people of God are with you and will not let themselves be influenced by the petty gossip of the moment, by the trials that sometimes assail the community of believers,” Sodano said. via NYTimes

Besides again calling criticisms of secrecy and lack of motion on handling sex abuse cases at the Vatican “petty gossip”, on Saturday, the Vatican’s newspaper continued its campaign against the media, saying recent writing like ours is a “despicable campaign of defamation.”

During Easter services the pope’s personal preacher apologised to jews, saying: “If — and it was not my intention to do so — I hurt the sensitivities of Jews and victims of paedophilia, I am truly sorry and I ask for forgiveness,” Father Raniero Cantalamessa said in an interview with Italy’s Corriere della Sera newspaper.
