RedTracker| Scientists are studying why breast bmilk is best for babies. Their conclusion is that it’s all in the genes. Researchers tracked which genes are operating in an infant’s intestine and the impact of regular baby formula and breast milk on both.
“The intestinal tract of the newborn undergoes marked changes in response to feeding. And the response to human milk exceeds that of formula, suggesting that the bioactive components in breast milk are important in this response,” said Sharon Donovan, a University of Illinois professor of nutrition.
It’s hope that the research can be used by makers of infant formulas to better replicate the health benefits of breast milk. Read on (lots more info) at Science Daily
