America Gets Failing Grade in Biodefense Preparedness

Love and Peace| More than eight years after the Sept. 11 terror attacks, the US is so unprepared to respond to a biological terror attack, that a congressionally appointed commission gave both Congress and the White House “F” grades for failing to build a rapid-response capability for dealing with a bio terror attack.

For ordinary citizens, the mangled response of federal government to the swine-flu epidemic was blatant evidence of America’s lack of preparedness for a large-scale crisis.

“Each of the last three administrations has been slow to recognize and respond to the biothreat,” said former senator Bob Graham (D-Fla.), who co-chaired the panel along with former senator Jim Talent (R-Mo.). “But we no longer have the luxury of a slow learning curve, when we know al-Qaeda is interested in bioweapons.” via Washington Post
