Rolling Stone Digs Deeply Into MSNBC Anchor Rachel Maddow & Her Dogged Pursuit of Trump Truth

'TRMS' is nothing if not a lengthy explanation of the news that Maddow is most interested in, particularly the opening segment, or "A Block," which she usually writes herself, sometimes with help from Conaway or other producers. The show's format of deep-dive analysis and investigative reporting is not easy to produce, and a typical day can last anywhere from 12 to 14 hours. Maddow, who lives with her longtime partner, photographer Susan Mikula, in western Massachusetts, maintains an apartment in Manhattan where she lives during the week, making the three-hour-plus drive back and forth to Massachusetts every weekend. Her workday begins at around 11 a.m., when she arrives at her office, reads through every bit of news she can get her hands on, and then spends a few hours researching or reporting what interests her the most. At around 2 p.m., Maddow convenes her staff in the newsroom to plan the evening's show, though, given the volatility of the current news cycle, what seems relevant at 3 p.m. might be sidelined by six.

Morning Joe' Roasts Kellyanne Conway, Saying She Detested Trump, The Presidential Candidate

'Morning Joe' hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski literally harpooned Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway on Monday's broadcast. Mika -- who has banned Conway from the show over her lying -- said that she heard Conway denounce candidate Trump in private before he was elected.

“She would get off the air, the camera would be turned off, the microphone would be taken off, and she would say ‘Blech, I need to take a shower,’ because she disliked her candidate so much,” Ms. Brzezinski said of Ms. Conway, after describing the White House Conway as part of spectacle she calls 'politics porn'.

Joe Scarborough, Ms. Brzezinski’s co-host and fiancé, affirmed Conway's statements, saying that post-interview she echoed the statements, saying that Ms. Conway said she had only taken the job for money and that her relationship with the future president would be short-lived.

NBC's Andrea Mitchell Says She's Never Seen Such A Lying White House In Her Long Career

NBC's Andrea Mitchell Says She's Never Seen Such A Lying White House In Her Long Career

Veteran reporter Andrea Mitchell, NBC News chief foreign affairs correspondent and host of MSNBC's 'Andrea Mitchell Reports' spares no words in her new interview for The Global Politico weekly podcast on world affairs in the Trump era.

Mitchell has covered every US president since Jimmy Carter and she declares that Trump is the most hostile to the press she's ever seen. Same for telling the truth, says the 70-year-old breast cancer survivor who outpaces reporters half her age. Mitchell is pushing back hard against a White House staff using the briefing room as a daily disinformation machine. Both the president and secretary of state are making every attempt to undermine the ability of reporters to do their job, says Mitchell.

Trump's War on Press Is a Key Signal of Authoritarian Objectives in Repressive Societies

The Trump administration stepped its assault on the media today, barring news outlets including CNN, the New York Times, Politico and the Los Angeles Times from attending an off-camera press briefing held by White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer.

The controversy came hours after President Trump again launched a full-frontal attack on the media -- the #fake media, he clarified in his Friday morning CPAC speech. The problem is that Trump is on the record calling the New York Times, CNN and countless other high-level media organization as perpetrators of #fakenews. So his clarification falls on fake ears.

The Wall Street Journal did participate in the briefing, issuing a statement that the newspaper was unaware of the exclusions. "Had we known at the time, we would not have participated, and we will not participate in such closed briefings in the future."

White House deputy communications director Raj Shah insisted this was all much ado about nothing.

Today's events follow Trump's top strategic adviser Steve Bannon's CPAC confab yesterday in which he said that the Trump White House intends to ramp up attacks on the media, insinuating that very choppy waters lie ahead.

We haven't confirmed if Lucian Wintritch, founder of Twinks4Trump -- an artist now with White House press credentials in his role as a reporter for Gateway Pundit --was in the selective gaggle. Read on for an in-depth analysis of Trump's war on the press.

Donors Fund More Than 200,000 Student Subscriptions To The New York Times In 2 Weeks

On Feb. 9, the NYT launched a new program in which interested donors can fund a digital subscription for a student. To expand the reach, the NYT then offers a one-for-one match for every donor subscription.
Two weeks in, and the total amount of contributions, which have ranged on the individual level from $4 to $20,000, have been enough to support digital subscription for 209,000 students since the launch. The figure is inclusive of those subscriptions matched by the Times. ~ Anne

Trump's Media Machine: Humbug or Bullshit? Business As Usual Political Lying? An Attempt To Make Putty Of American Minds?

Trump's Media Machine: Humbug or Bullshit? Business As Usual Political Lying? An Attempt To Make Putty Of American Minds?

About three weeks after the New York Times first used the word 'lie' in a headline as a way of confronting the lack of truth coming out of the West Wing, the entire media world, bloggers, Twitters -- anyone associated with communications -- now calls 'lies' for what they are. Trump spokesperson and adviser Kellyanne Conway may have invented the terms: 'alternative facts', but you can't pour water in that vessel without having leaks everywhere.

In a new development, the list of lies in Trump's long, meandering press conference Thursday Nov. 16, caused his base to love him and left the rest of us speechless. The lies were so numerous as to be frightening. PolitiFact takes a stab at separating fact from fiction.
