Actor and activist Penélope Cruz guest edits the April 2019 issue of Vogue España, reminding us all that she is far more a Versace woman than a Chanel one. A woman wears the clothes and not vice versa — a frequently forgotten fact. Cruz actually shoots an editorial in the issue, but here’s she’s styled by Juan Cebrián for ‘Un Papel A Su Medida’, lensed by Luigi & Iango. Note that the horizontal ‘cover’ below is actually a foldout. / Makeup by Pablo Iglesias; hait by Luigi Murenu

Penelope Cruz Is New Ambassador For John Hardy 'Made for Legends' 2019 Campaign By Josh Olins

Hollywood star Penelope Cruz, who debuted a sustainable jewelry collection with Swarovski last year headlines a new ‘Made for Legends’ campaign for luxe artisan jeweler John Hardy. Following last year’s ‘legends’ Julianne Moore and Adwoa Aboah, Cruz models the mixed metals of John Hardy’s spring/summer 2019 collection, in a campaign shot by Josh Olins.

“It is important to me that any project I participate in aligns with my values, and John Hardy has been dedicated to preserving their artisan community and rich heritage for over 40 years,” Cruz said in a statement.

“Each piece is handcrafted in Bali, a place I know and love, with techniques that have been passed down for generations and made with reclaimed gold and silver, as well as ethically vetted stones. I also love that the brand has championed female artisans and entrepreneurs from day one with its signature motif, Classic Chain, traditionally woven by Balinese women as a way to bring prosperity to their families," Cruz said.

Jessica Chastain's '355' Female Spies Save The World Project Is Hotter Than Hades In Cannes

Jessica Chastain's '355' Female Spies Save The World Project Is Hotter Than Hades In Cannes

The women are out in full force in Cannes, and in the post-Weinstein, #MeToo era, they mean business -- proving that they really can survive without Harvey. Variety reports that three major Chinese distribution companies are competing to acquire distribution rights in Greater China, and also to become equity investors in Jessica Chastain's original idea project '355'.

'355' is named after the first female spy in the American revolution, although her precise identity is not known. In Chastain's film, five female operatives band together to stop a global organization determined to acquire a deadly weapon that would thrust the world into chaos. The women are strangers and technically enemies in some cases. Under this dire threat of global destruction, Cruz, Bingbing, Cotillard, Chastain and Nyong'o join forces and become friends in the code-name '355' cell.

Penélope Cruz Rewrites Fairy Tales, Lensed By Cedric Buchet For Porter Edit February 16, 2018

Penélope Cruz Rewrites Fairy Tales, Lensed By Cedric Buchet For Porter Edit February 16, 2018

Actor and activist Penélope Cruz talks to Mark Smith about her process of becoming Donatella Versace for her US TV debut as the sister of murdered designer Gianni Versace. Cruz is happy to be back in Madrid, after living in London last winter during the filming of Kenneth Branagh's 'Murder on the Orient Express'. Cruz says she's constitutionally unsuited to gray days and an early nightfall, as it affects her brain.

Cruz became the first spanish woman to win an Academy Award, for her 2008 role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, a film written and directed by Woody Allen and produced by Harvey Weinstein.  We'll talk Cruz's Hollywood women experience in another post, but must share Penelope's resourceful way of dealing with gender roles between her own daughter and son.

“Fairy tales matter so much because these are the first stories that you hear from the mouths of your parents,” she says. “So, when I read fairy tales to my kids at night, I’m always changing the endings – always, always, always, always. F*****g Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty and all of this – there’s a lot of machismo in those stories. That can have an effect on the way that kids see the world. If you’re not careful, they start thinking: ‘Oh, so the men get to decide everything.’”

Cruz’s subversive fairy-tale heroines, she says, are prone to declining proposals of marriage, or making the proposals themselves. An example? “In my version of Cinderella, when the prince says, ‘Do you wanna marry?’ she says, ‘No, thanks, ’cos I don’t want to be a princess. I want to be an astronaut, or a chef.’” Cruz laughs wickedly and closes an imaginary book.

Cruz shares her details of her latest role as Donatella Versace in the FX Network's upcoming 'The Assassination of Gianni Versace'. The Oscar winner also reflected on her very first nude scene in director Pedro Almodóvar’s 1992 classic film 'Jamón Jamón', which she believed would torpedo her career. “Of course I was not looking forward to those scenes but I did it. Everyone was really respectful, aware of the fact that I was 18,” the 43-year-old said. “I remember the last day of filming, I was crying, saying: ‘What if I never shoot a movie again? The feeling was devastating.'”
