Willy Vanderperre Captures Prada Resort 2020 'Seditious Simplicity' Collection

Willy Vanderperre captures what Prada calls ‘Seditious Simplicity” or complexity subverted as Miuccia’s powerful women take center stage at New York City’s Piano Factory. Gloss pink columns disrupting rough concrete, dynamic perspectives and warped lens effects all contribute to an alternative view of the familiar and the seditious simplicity of the collection. Helena Christensen Captures Horsewoman Gigi Hadid Honoring Country For Vogue Czech May 2019

Helena Christensen Captures Horsewoman Gigi Hadid Honoring Country For Vogue Czech May 2019

Gigi Hadid’s Vogue Czechoslovakia May 2018 cover story is out and it’s a beauty. Jan Králíček styles Gigi in noble origins horsewoman looks — after all, Gigi loves horses. Helena Christensen uses her camera to create pure poetry in what becomes a very serious discussion of sustainability, as yet another magazine weaves serious discussions around fashion editorials.

In this case Vogue Czech editor-in-chief Andrea Běhounková writes an indepth letter about sustainability: (English translation), ending it after talking about the water used to make one single cotton shirt and the overall role of fashion in polluting the planet:

I admit that Honza Králíček and I were flying by plane with (to?) Gigi Hadid and Helena Christensen.
With us four suitcases.
Two years (over?) there, two back.
Less than ninety kilograms of clothing and 58 pairs of shoes.
Leather clothes yes, no fur coats.
It is not the power that is responsible for the environment, but how else to get to the east coast of the United States? (She’s speaking about carbon emissions and flying by jet everywhere).

Gigi invited us home. Try to decline this invitation.
With a clear conscience.

I was about to check if Helena made the shoot near her country house in upstate New York, but it sounds likely that the group congregated at Gigi’s family country house not far from my beloved Carversville. Helena is deeply committed to the environment and always always rides her bike around Manhattan. ~ Anne

Hadids at Harvard

A gaggle of Hadids at last weekend’s Arab Conference at Harvard University, where patriarch Mohamed Hadid spoke to the theme of (Re)Imagining Home.

This weekend the five Hadid children with their father Mohamed travelled to the Arab Conference at Harvard University, where 1300 prominent professionals and students — including Gigi and Bella’s father, real estate mogul Mohamed Hadid — spoke to the theme of (Re)Imagining Home.

Mohamed Hadid opened up about his Palestinian heritage, both as a keynote speaker and during his interview with journalist Jessica Azar

"I’m just a simple man from Nazareth, and I’ll always be a simple man from Palestine," the father-of-five told Azar on Sunday.

"One of my dreams is to have my kids carry the name Palestine with them everywhere they go, because it seems like we are losing that name as we go on. We want to make sure my family always carries that on."

The developer, who lived in Damascus, Beirut and Tunis before moving to the US aged 14 with his family, explained that while he only lived in Palestine for a few months as a baby, he considers himself to be Palestinian.

"My parents always embedded in us that we are Palestinians, we’ll always be Palestinians, so my home has always been that virtual home, where my mum, my dad, my kids were learning to roll grape leaves with their grandma," Hadid, who has Jordanian and American citizenship, said.

Hadid also revealed he last visited Palestine "about three years ago", when he returned to his childhood home.

"I went to the same bed I was born in, my mother was born in that bed also. Hopefully I can take the kids there one day."

Gigi & Bella Speak As Proud Palestinians

Gigi Hadid has previously spoken out about being a proud Palestinian, and addressed the topic at a Reebok event in Sydney in November.

“When I shot the cover of Vogue Arabia, I wasn’t ‘Arab enough’ to be representing those girls, even though I’m half-Palestinian,” she said. “I’m as Palestinian as I am Dutch. Just because I have blonde hair, I still carry the value of my ancestors and I appreciate and respect that.”

Bella also revealed she was "proud to be a Muslim" in the wake of US President Donald Trump’s attempted 2017 travel bans.

“My dad was a refugee when he first came to America, so it’s actually very close to home for my sister and brother and me,” Bella told Porter magazine. “He was always religious, and he always prayed with us."

Obama On Progressive Ideological Purity

AOC has excerpted Gigi’s many interviews on her heritage and living in the relentless, public spotlight. When Gigi Hadid speaks of not being ‘Arab enough’, she’s addressing the progressive mentality that former President Obama referenced last weekend in Berlin.

“One of the things I do worry about sometimes among progressives in the United States — maybe it’s true here as well — is a certain kind of rigidity where we say, ‘Oh, I’m sorry, this is how it’s going to be,’” Obama said. “And then we start sometimes creating what’s called a ‘circular firing squad’ where you start shooting at your allies because one of them is straying from purity on the issues.”

The former president said he believes this approach “weakens” movements, and that those that would like to see a progressive agenda “have to recognize that the way we’ve structured democracy requires you to take into account people who don’t agree with you.”

I myself have dealt with this ideological purity over my blond hair. My jaw dropped when my own progressive credentials were attacked by known to me FB friends for wearing hair that supports Nazis. Many US progressives do not want blonds in their camp.

Gigi Hadid Covers Vogue Arabia's Second Anniversary Issue, Lensed By Peter Lindbergh

Gigi Hadid Covers Vogue Arabia's Second Anniversary Issue, Lensed By Peter Lindbergh

Palestinian American supermodel Gigi Hadid celebrates the second anniversary of Vogue Arabia in her first image collaboration with esteemed photographer Peter Lindbergh. Wearing Giambattista Valli Couture and Givenchy Couture, the editorial was photographed in Paris during Fashion Week.

The March 2019 cover is Hadid’s 37th to date, and her second for Vogue Arabia after launching the magazine’s debut in 2017, shot by Inez & Vinoodh. It’s refreshing to see that the Twitter pc police didn’t run Hadid off this anniversary cover after her debut appearance.

“Being Arab has influenced me to be open and loving of all backgrounds, realizing that being more of one thing doesn’t make you less of something else,” she muses proudly, reflecting on the impact her Palestinian heritage has had on her life. Last year, Hadid was photographed celebrating Eid with pop star Zayn Malik, and also marched the streets of New York protesting against US President Donald Trump’s anti-Muslim travel ban in 2017.

Not mentioned in Vogue Arabia, we note that Gigi Hadid is also a UN ambassador in refugee camps in the Muslim world.

Gigi Hadid's Vogue Hong Kong Covers Sparks Internet Backlash Over 2017 Buddha Cookie 'Racism'

Gigi Hadid's Vogue Hong Kong Covers Sparks Internet Backlash Over 2017 Buddha Cookie 'Racism'

Vogue Hong Kong has launched as the 25th edition of the publication, with Gigi Hadid and Sun Feifei (aka Fei Fei Sun) covering the first issue, on sale today March 3, 2019 in Hong Kong..

Photographed by Nick Knight, the models each take a solo spot before appearing together on the third and final version. Both models wear Chanel Haute Couture, from Karl Lagerfeld’s last collection. The designer is prominently featured on the landing page of Vogue Hong Kong’s new website, as well as in the print publication.

The Vogue Hong Kong team will be led by Peter Wong, who assumes the role of Editorial Director. Joining Wong will be Senior Fashion Content Editor, Daniel Cheung, and Fashion Director, Anya Ziourov.

Speaking to WWD about about the decision to feature a western and an Asian model on the cover, Vogue Hong Kong publisher Desiree Au remarked that Hong Kong has "always been a mix of east and west".

This may be reality, but the Internet burst into furor over Gigi Hadid’s cover appearance. It turns out that people have a long memory over Hadid’s 5-second video of now-infamous eye moves. No one was upset that the restaurant served her a cookie depicting the face of Buddha. It was Hadid’s brief mimicking of the cookie with her eyes, that got her in a heap of trouobe.

Gigi Hadid Is Alluring Rio Beach Beauty Covering ELLE US March 2019, Lensed By Chris Colls

Supermodel Gigi Hadid appears in her first ever ELLE US cover triad, taking us to Rio de Janeiro in an issue that confronts the “allure of dangerous women”. Chris Colls captures the American all star posing in Cynthia Rowley pink, Balmain, Hermes, Valentino and more styled by Ilona Hamer.

In her interview ‘All Eyes on Gigi Hadid”, the supermodel responds to the ongoing attacks against the insta girls that she is a woman of privilege. In reality, these women are damned if they do and damned if they don’t, but Gigi does address her privilege in an honest and thoughtful way:

"I mean, I understand it. I come from privilege, and I recognize my privilege. But because my mom was on a TV show [Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills], people think that my whole childhood was fame. It absolutely was not. My mom was a model. She moved to the States when she was 16 to send money back to her family in Holland. My dad was a refugee and worked his way up in every way. I work hard to honor my parents."

EYE: Albert Watson Unveils Pirelli 2019 Calendar With Gigi Hadid, Misty Copeland, Laetitia Casta + Julia Garner

EYE: Albert Watson Unveils Pirelli 2019 Calendar With Gigi Hadid, Misty Copeland, Laetitia Casta + Julia Garner

The 2019 Pirelli calendar stars several of the world’s most famous women including Gigi Hadid, Misty Copeland, Laetitia Casta and Julia Garner with backup from Alexander Wang (with Gigi Hadid), Calvin Royal III (with Misty Copeland), Astrid Eika (with Julia Garner), and Sergei Polunin (with Laetitia Casta) — all lensed by celebrity photographer Albert Watson.

While the Pirelli calendar is more sensual than last year’s by Tim Walker, it is born of the #MeToo movement. The staged scenes of sex and debauchery — best lensed by Terry Richardson’s infamous image of Eniko Mihalik eating a banana — are gone.

Albert Watson, who is known for his cinematic images, chose to "show women who were dreaming of things."

The narratives were shot in Miami and New York and revolve around four glamorous female movie characters imagining their future success. Copeland, a principal dancer at the American Ballet Theater, plays the role of an aspiring dancer biding her time at a Miami strip club; Hadid is a stylish but bored and melancholy heiress; Casta performs as a bohemian painter; and actor Julia Garner plays a photographer.

"The Pirelli calendar was, at the bottom roots, a pinup calendar for mechanics when they changed tires," Watson said at his vast Manhattan studio last month.

"They held onto the sexy thing for a long period of time, and when it came time for me to do it, (it) seemed wrong to take models to the beach to take their tops off. It seemed out of time with the #MeToo movement."

Gigi Hadid Transforms Into Debbie Harry, Queen of Punk By Mert + Marcus For W Magazine #8

Gigi Hadid Transforms Into Debbie Harry, Queen of Punk By Mert + Marcus For W Magazine #8

Supermodel Gigi Hadid doesn’t tart up often, but she does a great job of channeling the cool rock star Debbie Harry, circa 1975, lensed by Mert + Marcus for W Magazine’s Issue #8 ‘Celebrate’.

Carlos Nazario styles Gigi in Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello, Chanel, Isabel Marant, Gucci , DSquared2 and more for Gigi Hadid Transforms Into Debbie Harry, Queen of Punk./ Hair by Tomi Kono; makeup by Diane Kendal

"I've always studied how models made pictures," said Gigi, who had been staring intently at a mood board covered with photos of Harry from Blondie's heyday. "It’s always been important to me to make a picture better. I can look at a shot and see where I fit into it, what I can add to the picture. I don’t want to be just another person on the page.” She paused. “I want people to see the new picture with me and one day remember it the way we remember these pictures of Debbie Harry.” So then: Iconic? “Iconic!” Gigi said. “What else is there?”

Gigi Hadid Wears Messika 'My Soul' and 'Move Addiction' Everyday Diamonds By Mert & Marcus

Supermodel Gigi Hadid fronts her third campaign for French jeweler Messika, lensed by Mert & Marcus. Valérie Messika, the daughter of a French diamond trader, founded her house in 2005. Gigi models selects from the ‘My Soul’ and ‘Move Addiction’ collections. “I want to create elegant diamond pieces that can be worn on an everyday basis,” Messika explains about her designs.

Today, “it’s normal to wear diamonds every day,” Messika told The Financial Times. “More women are buying for themselves and are being more adventurous in their purchases. Ten years ago, our clients would never have bought a diamond triple-finger ring.”
