Brigitte Niedermair Eyes Dior Resort 2020 North Africa-Inspired Collection

Models Adesuwa Aighewi, Ana Barbosa, Jiali Zhao and Ruth Bell are styled by Isabelle Kountoure in Dior Cruise 2020 Collection. Regular Dior photographer Brigitte Niedermair captures Maria Grazia’s homage to North Africa in a collection about luxury, globalism and culture.

The toile du jouy fabrics were produced as wax prints by studio Uniwax, located in the Ivory Coast city of Abidjan. Months before the collection debut in Marrakech, Maria Grazia packed by her toiles of seasons past—with her jungle creatures, wacky flora, and tarot card allusions, writes Vogue.com — and print their “gloriously and intentionally imperfect, labor intensive” interpretations.

Dior Launches 'Joy' With Jennifer Lawrence As Face Behind Its Third Pillar Fragrance

Dior Launches 'Joy' With Jennifer Lawrence As Face Behind Its Third Pillar Fragrance

Joy' by Dior is a big deal for the luxury house, becoming its third pillar fragrance for women, following Miss Dior (launched in 1947) and J'Adore Dior (1999). Consider a pillar fragrance the mother goddess brand -- Gaia, if you will -- from which all streams flow. The subbrands are like children: J'Adore Dior gave birth to J'Adore L'Or and J'Adore L'Absolu.

Everything about Joy by Dior is aimed at millennials. “The company had evolved and grown on these two pillars,” said Claude Martinez, chief executive officer of Parfums Christian Dior. “And, three years ago, we felt it was about time to add another one that appealed to the next generation of consumers. … The new generation in Europe and the U.S. — people in their 20s, I’m talking about — are not that much in favor of fragrances. They are disconnected. A brand like Dior needs to be able to talk to them.”

Jennifer Lawrence is the perfect face, says Martinez. "She's very spontaneous . . . She can be laughing one second and crying the next. . . . Joy doesn't last forever. It can disappear as fast as it appears" and for us, Jennifer "is the true incarnation of this joy."

Lawrence had a hand in shaping the new Dior scent according to the man who created it. “It was about six months into the project when she came to visit the laboratory,” said François Demachy, the Parfums Christian Dior perfumer-creator.

London's V&A Will Remix 'Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams Exhibition' Opening Feb. 2, 2019

London's V&A Will Remix 'Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams Exhibition' Opening Feb. 2, 2019

London's V&A museum will open a blockbuster fashion exhibition in 2019 focused on Christian Dior's fascination with British culture. Scheduled to be the biggest fashion exhibition since it hosted Alexander McQueen's 'Savage Beauty', the exhibition will examine the total expanse of the House of Dior from 1947 to the present.

Fashionistas already know about the Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams exhibition held at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris from summer 2017 until January 2018. The V&A will remix and reimagine the Paris show, surely highlighting the Dior dress worn by Princess Margaret for her 21st birthday celebration. The dress traveled to Paris on loan from the Museum of London, the V&A said.

The exhibition will also explore Dior's “spectacular fashion shows staged in the UK’s most luxurious stately homes”. The famous fashion designers said "There is no other country in the world, besides my own, whose way of life I like so much."

Within the context of current Dior creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri's longstanding commitment to feminism, we must note that many cultural anthropologists and students of feminism believe that Dior's silhouettes and haute couture attitudes actually set back women's rights which were on the move because of women's participation in the WWII war effort.

Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams will open from 2nd February – 14th July 2019 at the V&A Museum. Tickets go on sale in fall 2018.

The LVMH Challenge of Branding Christian Dior For the Future

The LVMH Challenge of Branding Christian Dior For the Future AOC Anne Talks Business

Women aren’t little soldiers who need to get our marching orders from imperious personalities telling us who and what to be as women. It’s Tom Ford who told Interview Magazine that many fashionistas are truly insecure in their identities, and I agree with him. But I also see shifting sands ahead as women wise up to what’s going on around us.
