A Viking Past Lives In Denmark’s Wind-Powered Today

Viking Horn-Inspired Turbines Make Green Music in Copenhagen  AOC Human Values

Denmark pioneered wind power during the 1970s and created a manufacturing base that today leads the technology. Wind power provided one-third of Denmark’s energy consumption in 2013 and 41% of energy consumption in the first half of 2014. The goal is 50% of Denmark’s energy consumption coming from wind power by 2020.

How poetic and relevant it is that designers Laura Mesa Arango and Rafael Sanchez Herrera are inspired by Denmark’s wind power history but also historical Viking horn forms for their new exhibit at the 2014 Land Art Generator Initiative.

HACKNEY is increasing its fashion-hub status by the day: tomorrow sees the launch of The Fashion Lab, a collaborative effort between Hackney Council, the Design-Manufacturer Innovation Support Centre (DISC) and the Centre for Fashion Enterprise (CFE) to facilitate young designers and graduates with equipment and studio space as they begin their careers.

“London has always been renowned for creativity in fashion. We expect this new facility will drive London forward as the heart of unlocking creativity and supporting fashion designers through technical innovation,” said Wendy Malem, director of CFE and DISC.

Wiki Leaks Goes Fashionable Vogue UK

WikiLeaks is launching a fashion label, first stop India where it will open stores for the non-profit organization in a drive to raise awareness and funds.

“India is one of the countries where awareness about WikiLeaks is the highest and Julian [Assange, WikiLeaks founder] is excited about the proposition,” Olafur Vignir Sigurvinsson, an Iceland-based WikiLeaks representative, told the Times of India. He added that the monetisation of the WikiLeaks brand would help raise funds for the company, which - like Wikipedia - currently survives on donations. “We are also looking for partners in India, who can manage the property and translate it into retail and e-retail platforms,” Olafur added.

The organisation already retails selected products, including T-shirts bearing the slogans “Designated enemy of the state”, “Leaks exposing injustice” and “By becoming continuous, war has ceased to exist”.
