The Authentic Power of Michelle Obama by Frank Bruni New York Times

Isn’t it delicious that after trafficking in racism, promoting sexism and using a lie about Barack Obama’s birthplace as a pivot into political relevance, Donald Trump could receive his final death blow from a black woman: the president’s wife?
And isn’t it interesting that after so many years of keeping a studied distance from the ugliness of the political arena, the first lady is throwing herself with such passion into this grotesque campaign?
That says everything about the singular threat that Trump poses, and she’s emerging as the fiercest counter to it: Michelle Obama, octopus slayer. She’s effective because she has never gone looking for a fight — we know that about her. She acts when she has something to defend, and as she made clear in a stirring, searing speech late last week, that’s more than her husband’s legacy, which a Trump victory would decimate. It’s her dignity as a woman. It’s the dignity of all women.

Donald Trump in 1994: I tell my friends to "be rougher" with their wives VOX

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump once told an interviewer that he advises his friends to "be rougher" with their wives, and that he sometimes goes "through the roof" when he comes home and dinner isn't ready.

"Psychologists will tell you that some women want to be treated with respect," Trump told Nancy Collins in a previously unreleased 1994 transcript from ABC’s Primetime Live. "I tell friends who treat their wives magnificently, get treated like crap in return, 'Be rougher and you’ll see a different relationship.'"

Voice Shaking, Michelle Obama Calls Trump Comments on Women 'Intolerable' New York Times

Speaking in a deeply personal, deliberate but shaking voice, America's First Lady addressed the nation on Thursday, issuing a call to action against Donald Trump specifically for his actions, his vulgarity and lacking in conscience words about women.
“This is not normal. This is not politics as usual,” Mrs. Obama said in a 25-minute speech here during which her voice at times quavered with emotion. “This is disgraceful, it is intolerable, and it doesn’t matter what party you belong to,” she added. “No woman deserves to be treated this way — none of us deserves this kind of abuse.”
In remarks that were among the most outspoken by a first lady in modern history, Mrs. Obama, who has mostly avoided the political limelight, positioned herself at the center of a campaign she characterized as having devolved into “madness.” She implored voters to “stand up and say enough is enough.”

Related: 'Pence: 'I don't understand the basis' of Michelle Obama's claims Politico

Of course Mike Pence doesn't understand Michelle's speech. Mike Pence supports a Personhood bill that equates the legal rights of a 24-hr. old fertilized egg or a month-old zygote with those of our beloved First Lady Michelle Obama. He sees them equally before the law. Period. If this is where your head is at, you have no empathy for what women deal with every day. We are incubators in your brain, the same petrified brain that passed the most gruesome anti LGBTQ legislation in America.

In addition, I doubt that Mike Pence has been subjected to a woman manhandling him as Trump has manhandled women -- and by his own admission. Trump said that he's slept with so many women. he can't believe he never got the clap. Everyone who knows him accepts that boast as real. So as the females come forward with their claims against Trump, Pence can't see why Michelle Obama and millions of women are reeling this week BECAUSE Donald Trump has given his word that he is telling the truth and we are all liars. Typical females. For Pence, that's the last word on the subject. End of story.

Does he even listen to Trump tell these stories to the crowds and compare them to what the women have actually said? I doubt it. Pence has a rigid, authoritarian mind, one that has no need to investigate truth.

Floodgates of Sexual Aggression Claims Open Against Donald Trump As Women's Stories Substantiate Trump's Own Words AOC Hillary Clinton News

The final weeks of America's 2016 presidential election present a fast ride in which his "shackles have been taken off." Over the years I've referenced my own love for driving sports cars with a firm grasp of driving a stick. As millions of Americans -- and especially American women have tweeted in the last week, our memories of sexual abuse, including firmly delivered sexual aggression and rape were unleashed listening to Donald Trump's Billy Bush video released last Friday by The Washington Post.

Women were shocked when Donald Trump brought the recently fired, former head of FOX News Roger Ailes into his inner campaign circle. They are close friends and increasingly we understand why.

Over the past week, Donald Trump's words and actions sickened America's women as we reflected on the denials in our own lives. I shared details of my own stories years ago on Anne of Carversville.

Wednesday night all hell broke loose in the world of women and Donald Trump.  A series of stories broke over the morning into evening.  More women came forward on Friday with indications that many women are talking with the press.  Our current story list includes:

Neil deMause: Brooklyn is dead; long live Brooklyn NY Daily News

Several interlocking factors are creating a New Brooklyn. The number of households earning more than $200,000 a year almost doubled between 2005 and 2012. The rebirth of Brooklyn is great but also troubling as -- once again -- gentrification moves a local population out of the neighborhood with rising housing costs.

In a sad note of irony, high-income young whites and people of color who want to live in integrated communities, known for their cultural vibrancy, are eliminating that possibility with their ability to pay soaring rents.

One of Mexico City's Hottest Dining Trends? Eating Insects

Intrepid Travel’s Real Food Adventure-Mexico local guide Ubish Yaren, says that the eating of insects dates back to pre-Hispanic times. “Why do you start eating insects or cactus or things with spines? Because of need,” says Yaren. “But now, insects are one of the most expensive ingredients in Mexican cuisine.” The commitment to insects ties in with the worldwide eat local trend and the artisan emphasis on heritage items.  Mexico City’s dining scene elevates the trend of celebrating simple ingredients beyond vegetables to insects.
