Nujood Ali: Yemini Child Bride Activist?

Nujood Ali is helping 12-year-old Sally Sabahi file for divorceYemini child bride Nujood Ali who was just 9-10 years old when she implemented on the extraordinary decision of borrowing the bus fare to her courthouse, where she demanded a divorce from her husband, more than 20 years her senior.

It seems certain that destiny is written on the brow of Nujood Ali, who has involved herself in another divorce case, this time 12-year-old Sally Sabahi who seeks a divorce from her 21-year-old husband.

Ms. Ali is donating $500, nearly haf the sum of dowry required to buy Ms. Sabahi’s freedom.Her lawyer Shadla Nasser will take on the case.

Sabahi, who was married at 10, said she was raped repeatedly by her husband. Assuring her that this treatment was normal, her family drugged her with painkillers so her husband could force himself on her, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“Please free Sally from this unfair marriage and let her go back to play with her friends, brothers and sisters,” Ali said. “We are not toys. We are children.”
