Looking:1990 | Gulf War | Black American Soldier | 6 Girls & Mom Walking to Turkey | Piece of Bread Gladly Given

Researching the resumption of Congolese warlord Thomas Lubanga’s trial at The Hague, I found this spectacular photographic composition. Enjoy Aveen L (heart symbol)ve’s photostream on Flickr.

This photo is dedicated to a black American solider where I met way back in 1990 during the Gulf war between Iraq and Kuwait. As my family and I were trying to escape from the war in Iraq, searching for a safe place to live, finding our freedom in peace, we met a black American solider sitting on a rock eating a piece of bread as we‘re walking towards him, he looked at us, we looked back at him, he took out his piece of bread and give to my mother, and said “ have this bread, you have 6 beautiful girls” Now imagine yourself a parent a child, walking towards the 55 temperature deadly hot sun for 2 weeks barefoot, no food , no water, no tree so you can rest under it’s shadow. They were vehicles available, but it would have been very dangerous to ride on, because it’s easy for helicopters to see, even no one was allowed to wear colourful cloth because it’s easy to get caught .. it took us three months journey walking through mountains to mountains until we reached Turkey’s boarder, where we stayed for three years in reguee camps. There is so much more I can say, but it gets very personal .

Anytime when I see trees in silhouettes, it reminds me of that black American solider, wondering if he is still alive , if he is, he’ll probably don’t even remember me, or my family, because on that same path, It wasn’t just our family, their were more then 50, 000 families escaping from the war. I was only 5 years old and still remember this so perfectly, 20 years haven’t been to Iraq. Right now I’m very thankful for what I have, a loving family, Love is the most greatest theme in part of my life nothing else matters to me, because love wins over anything,

i used my old shots and put them together in photoshop..
