Howard Buffett Foundation Funds New Agra Research for Developing Countries
Tue, February 16, 2010 The Howard G. Buffett Foundation has funded a $1.75 million research grant focused on how to develop sustainable food systems in poor countries.
The research will take place on about 500-acres of land owned by the foundation in Christian and Macon counties, in southern Illinois. Deeply involved in the farming of poor farmers around the world, Buffett leads a group of professional farmers, agra scientists and activists concerned that first world farming techniques are failing in Africa and now in India, too, decades after the successful green revolution.
Howard Buffett said it’s often irresponsible to build a system based on fossil fuel systems for poor farmers.
