All 101 chosen images out of over 57,000 submissions are now showcased on the Vogue Italia website. This one from Carolina Munzi caught our eye.

The Statue of Liberty is near and dear to our hearts at AOC. And we’re sensitive to social conservatives calling us Jezebels because we embrace her as an American symbol of empathy and understanding. You think I exaggerate?

Incredulous about what I was reading a year ago, I was stopped dead in my tracks with International House of Prayer evangelist Mike Bickle calling Oprah the forerunner of the Antichrist.

In Bickle’s brain, female nature is once again hooking up with Satan, as it did in the Garden of Eden. This is why a large number of fundamentalist preachers worldwide insist that women must be directed by men.

Catholic Bishops Hats Inspire Coconut Shrimp Recipe

The Catholic bishops are having a powwow today, plotting their next moves against American women in the name of religious freedom.

Don’t be fooled — this ‘ol boys club intends to retake full control of every breath we take. While not Catholic, PA’s Congressman Joe Pitts is deeply embedded in the same theology, one based on (mostly white) MEN RULE!!

Looking at those damn hats that symbolize their demand to rule over us like kings, the Spittin’ sisters share this recipe for coconut shrimp. We trust you see the resemblance.

Ingredients:

1 lb (24) large shrimp, peeled and deviened (weight after peeled)
1/2 cup + 1 tbsp shredded sweetened coconut
1/2 cup + 1 tbsp panko crumbs
2 tbsp all purpose flour (you will only use 1 tbsp)
1 large egg
pinch salt
non-stick spray (I used my misto)

For the Sweet and Spicy Dipping Sauce:

1/2 cup apricot preserves (you can use sugar free if you wish)
1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
3/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes

State Rep. Kip Smith charged with DUI in Buckhead Atlanta Journal Constitution

Georgia State Rep. Kip Smith (R) wants all welfare recipients to be subjected to drug testing, even though the same law in Florida is regarded as a farce, based on test results and costs to the taxpayers.

Smith, who likes racy cars, drove his 1998 gold four-door Jaguar XJ8 (Anne’s favorite) through a red light last Friday morning, leaving Hal’s restaurant on Old Ivy Road, with a police car trailing him. Smelling alcohol on Smith’s morning breakfast breath after pulling him over, the officer reports that John Andrew Smith initially denied that he had been drinking.

“I asked him again, and he stated he had consumed a single beer at Hal’s. I noticed also that Mr. Smith’s eyes were watery, and I asked him to exit the vehicle, which he did,” Kramer said in the report.

Smith told the officer he’d had the beer 45 minutes earlier, and the officer asked him to blow into a hand-held “intoximeter”. The officer said the lawmaker refused, stating he would prefer to go to a clinic or the hospital to get tested.

After finally agreeing to blow into the ‘intoximeter’, the police report stated that the breakfast-lovin’ legislator blew a .091, which is above the legal Georgia limit of .08. Smith allegedly failed a “walk-and-turn” test and a “one-leg stand” test also. At this point the unhappy Hal’s breakfast customer was arrested.

In fact all the Republican candidates are riding a golden chariot on behalf of God over America’s current belief in separation of church and state. Most of us thought it was part of the US Constitution and Bill of Rights, but the Republicans say “no”.  Unquestionably, the Republicans seek a Christian theocracy for America.

In analyzing why Bachmann’s campaign bit the dust with a nine-point list, chief politics writer Jennifer Jacobs writes:

Rival presidential candidate Rick Santorum’s Iowa coalitions director, Jamie Johnson, sent out an email saying that children’s lives would be harmed if the nation had a female president. He wrote it in June, but it surfaced on the campaign trail in the fall.

“The question then comes, ‘Is it God’s highest desire, that is, his biblically expressed will, … to have a woman rule the institutions of the family, the church, and the state?’ ” Johnson’s email said.

Johnson said the email was meant to be a private message to a friend, that he sent it from his personal email account, not his campaign account, and that he hadn’t intended it to be read by anyone else.

Peter Waldron, Bachmann’s faith outreach coordinator, said:

Three influential pastors called for her to bow out of the race, and numerous others said “that a female could not be a civil magistrate,” said Waldron, who lives in Florida and has worked six presidential campaigns dating to Ronald Reagan’s in 1980.

Order Dismisses a Priest Trying to Ordain Women NYTimes

As anticipated and reported recently, the Rev Roy Bourgeois, who has refused to renounce his very public campaign to ordain Catholic women as priests, has been notified of his dismissal from the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers. The reason given is his ‘defiant stance’ in opposition to church teaching.

The group Roman Catholic Womenpriests has ordained 120 women as priests and 10 as bishops in the last few years.

“They want two words: I recant,” Father Bourgeois said. “And they can’t get that out of me. For me, the real scandal is the message we are sending to women: you’re not equal, you cannot be priests, you’re not worthy.”

Rupert Murdoch’s chief executive Rebekah Brooks resigned today, “the biggest casualty so far in the phone hacking scandal roiling Britain.

Previously Murdoch had defended Brooks, refusing to accept her resignation, as British politicians demanded that she step down. But yesterday the second largest shareholder in News Corporation Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal Alsaud shared his thoughts on the situation with BBC.

American Catholic Bishops Censure Fordham Scholar Sister Elizabeth A. Johnson

Fordham University professor Sister Elizabeth A. Johnson is one of a generation of feminist and male religious scholars who acknowledge that the writers of the Bible circumscribed women’s roles as part of their own cultural biases.

In 2007 Sister Johnson wrote Quest for the Living God: Mapping Frontiers in the Theology of God.  The reviews of her book were excellent and it remains #1071 at Amazon almost four years after publication.

The NYTimes writes that American bishops are now on the offensive against Sister Johnson, accusing her of violating church doctrine. Scholars on both left and write agree that the bishops, who already refuse to discuss issues around ordaining women are signaling that there will also be no discussion of pronouns in prayers, the study of male and female aspects of God and other ‘progressive ideas’ about God.
