Major Win for Birth Control

US government: Insurers must cover birth control with no copays MSNBC

The US health department gave a green light today to the plan recommended by the US Institute of Medicine, starting that all US-approved birth control methods — including the ‘morning-after pill’ be added to the federal government’s list of preventive health services.

The decision is considered a win for the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and Planned Parenthood. The decision takes effect in 2014.

The recommendation faced strong opposition from conservative and religious groups that balked at the use of taxpayer money to cover birth control, especially the controversial “morning-after pill.”

Otherwise, there is nothing new except details about DSK’s life as a young man growing up and his meeting Anne Sinclair.

Smart Girls Summit: Michele Bachmann Wins Straw Poll The Daily Beast

Nearly 300 conservative women activists were in Louisville this weekend, attending the third annual Smart Girl Summit, awarding presidential contender Michele Bachmann their straw poll win.

Stay-at-home mom Stacy Mott began blogging about her political frustrations in June 2008 after John McCain lost the election. Mott asked readers if they would be interested in forming a new conservative group. Moving from 60 responses in the first two weeks, Smart Girl Politics (SGP) had 2,000 members by Feb. 2009. Not quite three years later, SGP now claims 55,000 nationwide.

Cofounder Teri Christoph, also a stay-at-home mom, credits the beginning of SGP “to the perfect storm of Palin arriving on the political scene, conservatives flocking to social media, and Barack Obama becoming president.”
