'The Carrie Diaries' | Candace Bushnell's New Book

Today’s London Times plumbs the depths and not just the glossy surface of Carrie Bradshaw’s ‘Sex and the City’ creator Candace Bushnell. We learn almost as much about her mother as Bushnell, who at 51 is incredibly sensual, full of vitality and thriving in her eight-year-marriage to Charles Askegard, 10 years her junior.

Writer Shane Watson notes that Carrie Bradshaw’s ‘Sex and the City’ character’ lacks the intensity of Bushnell’s vision, echoing my own sentiments on Bradshaw’s alleged feminist credentials:

though I’m a Sex and the City fan, I find the on-screen Carrie, with her little girlie tics and self-conscious kookiness, a tad irritating. via London Times

Candace Bushnell’s new book goes back to Carrie’s beginning, freed perhaps by age to reexamine her beginnings. ‘The Carrie Diaries’ opens in her senior year of high school and ends the day she arrives in Manhattan with Samantha Jones’s phone number in the palm of her hand.

Read on at The London Times, who always invests words in telling an interview story with depth and not mere lipgloss: Sex and the City’s Candace Bushnell on Reinventing Carrie Bradshaw.
