In Feb 2008, days before mere mortals like the NYTimes, NYMag and I came down hard on the Victoria’s Secret brand for totally trashing up one of America’s best-done sexy concepts, Esquire printed the Angels in a sophisticated, if simple, man-loving ode to the Angels.
The group includes Adriana Lima, Selita Banks, Izabel Goulart and Karolina Kurkova.
No one took issue with the Esquire spread by James White. It was the store and actual merchandise, spread-eagle mannequins and surely a dog-collar or two, that caused the editorial revolt against VS at Esquire.
